MUMBAI CONSULTATION ON POLICE REFORMS: ‘BETTER POLICING –SAFER CITY: HOW TO MAKE IT HAPPEN

The Common Wealth Human Rights Initiative, Delhi in association with Citizen Initiative for Peace (CIP), Praja, PCGT, M R. Pai Foundation. Akshara, Forum against Oppression of Women and Forum of Free Enterprise is organising an important consultation/deliberation on Police Reform as ‘Better Policing –Safer City: How to make it happen’ ON Friday,  22ND FEB. 2013 AT 4.30. P.M. AT USTAV BANQUET HALL, SAMRAT VEG. RESTAURANT, JAMSHEDJI TATA ROAD (NR. RITZ HOTEL) CHURCHGATE.

The purpose of the consultation is to bring together active citizenry to see what possibilities there are for engaging with creating a safer Mumbai for all. The meeting would look into

·         overview of policing arrangements in Mumbai.

·         Understand what has been done over time to enhance every day safety of the population 

·         and discuss the requirements and recommendations made to enhance policing after the Verma Committees Recommendations, especially in relation to vulnerable populations and women.

Some of the eminent personalities expected to attend are: Justice B.N Srikrishna,  Mr. Julio Rebeiro, IPS, Mr. Satish Sahney, IPS  [Former Mumbai Police Commissioner ], Mr.Shailesh Gandhi, [Former Central Information Commissioner] and several other prominent  activists and leading advocates.
