An important note to Rail Commeters

When we travel in a train an accident may be there to us either while ascending or decending we may have an injury to our body or breakage of bone. Recently a lady sent a complaint to Kanara Chamber that she fell from the train while decending at Chengannur Railway station two months back and had an injury which made her bedridden for 2 months. She wanted justice from the Railways. When we went through it we noticed that there was no date of accident, her ticket No or PNR No. We telephoned to her and asked to send these details. As she did not respond we returned the paper to the Chamber Office.

Citing this we would like to tell all train commuters that when they travel they should keep the following records with them.
    1. A xerox copy of ticket
    2. Ticket No. and PNR No.
    3. Travelling date

    4. Coach No. (B1, B4, S1 to S9 etc.)

When met with an accident, along with the above one should not down the time of train stopping at their stations. Each coach has a separate Sl.No. within on it outside (not S1 etc.) like 36569 etc. This number may also be noted and immediately a complaint be given to the station master. There is also a complaint book even that could be used.

A lady teacher of Udupi complained 2 years back to us that she fell from the train as she stepped into a hole in the platform. We perceived the matter with the Railways, but it was rejected because she did not lodge the complaint with Station Master immediately.

The complainant lady has mentioned that Chenganur Railway Station has only 1 minute stop and that should be made 2 mins. This may not be possible if the time thus increased the train will reach its destination on the next day.

When train arrives at the platform the station master comes near the train with Red and Green flags. An employee goes to the guards? cabin at the rear end of the train to deliver papers. The guard scrutinises the book and receives the papers. If there are more papers it may take 1/2 or 1 min. more. The Station Master also observes all the coaches and if there is delay of a passenger getting in or out he blows the whistle and waves the green flag and the train moves. Sri R.L.
