To All those who criticized my comment - let me tell you I am presently working in Qatar and I have helped a lot of people to get jobs here, given charity and done a lot of good which I do not have to publish it here nor do I have to justify my comment. Ask the ones who love to publish their stupid faces if they have done anything good for any good cause.

Today; 22nd Sept; a dollar can fetch Rs.49.57
This site can convert values:

"Mudige ippath rupai; adige maado dodda appai; Chakrakke ippatthu bangdy." Good old days; right? anybody remembers? Don’t bother....

It is said, that, "when my candle lights yours; my candle does not lose its brightness at all."
What a noble gesture from these three women, Swapna, Ragini and Sunila to provide free educational assistance on website. All those who have access to computer or internet will be thrilled, obviously.
There is an another free site. The Khan Academy is an educational organization, created in 2006 by Bangladeshi-American educator Salman Khan, an educator and graduate of MIT. With the stated mission of "providing a high quality education to anyone, anywhere", the website supplies a free online collection of more than 2,600 micro lectures via video tutorials stored on YouTube teaching mathematics, history, finance, physics, chemistry, biology, astronomy, economics and computer science.
Sharing is caring.
I remember my slate, I remember knuckle knocks on the skull, I remember the leaking class-room roof... That is an whole article, not for this generation.
"There is no greater charity than sharing ones knowledge." I am not educated enough to know the author of this quote. Thanks folks.
I really wonder how K.Com finds such unique news, as this article.

@Anne, I don’t think there is any one jobless in our native place or else we won’t be paying Rs. 300 per day for migrant labour. Our Mangaloreans won’t work locally but will be ever ready to even clean toilets overseas for a pittance.

Hats off to the organisors, nice program, and May god bless them for their efforts to bring the mangaloreans together. It is easy to comment and say show off, first check your own conscious, how many people you have helped. Jesus said if anyone did not sin must throw the first stone in the bible. Are you a righteous person to Judge? How many poor people you have helped in your lifetime. Seema you are in Qatar, have you brought people from native place to work? Is it easy to get visas over here? I myself in Qatar and looking for job and I feel it’s very difficult. Why are you comparing the social gather with jobs and all. If you cannot take part in such things then don’t blame and discourage others. May be many bachelors who do not have families must have felt good with such occasion. Next time before commenting please ponder on Jesus words Do Not Judge others. May god bless you.

Seema and Anne, timidly or boldly, have brought out a valid idea (which needs attention) that besides photo-opportunity, we could achieve much more, such as help the needy or a cause. May be we could set aside 7 or 10% of the tickets sold for different charities at each function agreed upon by the organizers. Well, if the expenses are more than the tickets sold, and if one cannot break-even, then this idea may fail, unless there are sponsors with or without photos. If there is will, nothing is impossible; even the Sun can rise from West, if renamed, East to West. Laugh baye laugh..

Excellent photographs!!!! It was almost like seeing a full fledged Hindi movie. @Seema, All this is not show off and looking at the number of pictures I feel the organizers have made an honest attempt to cover every single participant in the venue. I was fortunate to have a short stint in gulf and I did get an opportunity to interact with few of our folks. Looking at their dismal social conditions, working environments, job insecurity and pangs of loneliness (having separated from their loved ones) these festivals are the only outlet to mingle with fellow Mangaloreans and share their joys and sorrows. I am sure these pictures connect them back home to their families. I know it would be nice if they used facebook but how many of us have facebook in India? As regards to doing something for people back home, a lot of people help but they prefer to do without a song and dance and it is their prerogative. Finally, I like the tradition, culture and spirit of this celebration which I don’t think even we guys in India follow. Good show and GOD BLESS.

I see a picture of a 7-8 year old boy in checkered blue shirt, with a paper plate in hand, just only rice in it, even after passing 7-8 buffett dish pans, looking sad and perhaps hungry, as though looking for a piece of eatable dish he likes! He looks sad, perhaps he could not find his mashed potatoes, or french fries, or vegetarian pizza; nay he is not asking for burgers.... I admire him because, you can’t make him eat your menu!
Any culture which cannot adapt, is doomed to disappear by next generation.
I was returning from a monthi fest ritual. One of my daughter asked me to stop the car near McDonalds. I asked why? "I have to use the bathroom." "Why?" "You and your vegetables!" "Hurry up, unless you want to stink your car..?"
The other girl said, "I am hungry, I want french fries. Arn’t potatoes vegetarian?, Dad"?
Folks; learn to sing "Gupith Mog, or tell the same age old joke/song at every function for the rest of your life; Still, You can get free meal, because such is the culture of monthi fest!

Quite interesting; animals roam about freely as should be, whereas humans are restrained in cages and are asked to stay quiet, sit boobuu sit, and are asked not to feed the animals and that too they have to pay a fee to get caged! cruelty?

In the year 1950; I had heard and seen or drawn pictures of aeroplanes from text books. My imagination went wild when I saw a plane flying in the sky from Bombay to Bajpe in the year 1951 for the first time. In those days, I have had not seen lot more things like CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) or Skype etc. I had read then in a newspaper I guess, that grand parents in USA give cars as gifts if their grandchildren pass high school. Whereas, there was not a single car in Barkur. Have you written Cobol programs using punch cards? You might have heard, right?
It takes more energy to be grumpy than to smile or laugh! Choice is yours! Be happy, chirpy, and crispy!

55 years ago, in Barkur, there was a swimming competition in my high school. Since there were no swimming pools as such, a temple large pool was used. The stagnant water was cold and cool.
One of the popular athlete got cramps in the leg and was drowning. Fortunately the sports teacher had hired a local fisherman, who pulled this swimmer to safety. It was then I had heard the term Life Guard, Floating devices, safety, motor driven boats etc. There is an islet type of land between Kallyanpur Kalav and Brahmavar Kalav.
In the rainy season water flows in this river in a mighty hurry causing unexpected swirl-pools or dangerous currents. In the year 1958 or so; one Fr. A. Sequeira, the then Parish Priest of Sasthan, who was crossing the river by boat, got capsized, and was drowned.
Local fishermen searched for him, in vain, for five days. On sixth day his body was found in Manoor beach. Manoor is a place between Kota and Sasthan. The body had travelled about 10-15 miles. May his soul rest in peace. Mark my words, prevention is better than cure. There is a difference between constructive criticism and…. I had heard of sour grapes, but now I know there are bitter ones too. Laugh

16/09/2011 15:58:08

Just for passification, it doesnot mean that we ( the present generation) should not own a car or motor bike, because our grand/great grand fathers didnot own it.

Is it not right to think about the safety awareness??? whether in India or any corner of the world.

The coconut tree may be of height 30 to 40 ft ( guessing by looking at the height of the person climbing and the tree), It may be typing error.

But we should admire the organisers, for organising these types of rural games and competitions in our villages.

Keep it up!!!

Why do Indians love to criticize their mother land sitting in a foreign country?
I wonder if they have ever seen a life jacket, harness or motor boat before leaving India.
Good to see our local guys swim against the currents and climb tall coconut trees without diapers.

300 feet tall coconut trees? Very rare or never heard of... or 100 feet sir?
I did not see pictures of any motor driven boat or any life guard in the event of emergencies.
Just as forgiveness is better than permission; however, prevention is better than cure...Just an observation ..aste..

In India people adore cricket because philosophy of our government is play only cricket and spend five days of precious time wasting just watching and relaxing in front of TV resulting in losses of millions of hours of work billions of revenue losses due to cuts in productivity. What I would suggest is give same importance to all sports fields like hockey, soccer, tennis, etc that’s only few hours of demonstration in play.

I was really in tears while reading about Yuvi and his family the person who made India Proud by hitting that goal which brought Asian Championship to India and the sports ministry initially rewarded them with just Rs. 25000/= what a shame?? Why this happens in INDIA for sports other than cricket?? See the condition of Yuvi and his family, how he struggled in his life, why there is no proper attention to National Players other than cricket??
