DEHRA DUN: Alleged irregularities have been found in the labelling of some of the food products marketed by yoga guru Ramdev’s Divya Yog Mandir Trust, Haridwar District Magistrate Sachin Kurve said on Wednesday.
Citing a report of Rudrapur-based Food and Drug Testing Laboratory in this regard, he said irregularities have been found in the labelling of six food products marketed by the trust.
The alleged regulatory violations by the Trust have been categorised as "misleading" and "misbranding" against labels. However, the trust has denied the claims.
The six sampled food products in which irregularities have been found are salt, mustard oil, honey, black pepper, pineapple jam and Arogya Besan.
Citing the findings of the laboratory, Kurve said, "It states that the product is manufactured elsewhere while claims of purity have been made by brand Patanjali, which becomes misleading."
A notice is being sent in this regard to the trust, he said.
However, the report does not comment on the quality of the products and cites only alleged violations of regulatory requirements in their labelling.
State food security department had taken samples of six food products allegedly manufactured and marketed by the yoga guru’s trust in August and sent them to the Rudrapur-based food and drug testing laboratory which gave its report yesterday.
However, denying any attempt to mislead the consumers president of Patanjali Ayurved Ltd S K Patra said, "No company manufactures salt. It is made on the sea shore. All companies buy it and then brand it.

SURAJKUND: Clearing the party line on FDI in multi-brand retail, BJP on Wednesday totally opposed the move at the party’s national executive being held here, in the backdrop of stiff opposition to the government’s decision to bring 51% FDI in the retail sector from parties across the political spectrum.
Party chief Nitin Gadkari in his opening speech at the executive, "categorically opposed" FDI in retail, party spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad told reporters here.
When asked for further clarification Prasad said BJP is of the view that, "51% FDI in retail is not in the interest of the country or our own farming community." On further questions on whether the party’s opposition was to the quantum of FDI that is allowing 51%, he clarified saying, "wait for our manifesto... 51 or no per cent... "
Prasad however clarified that BJP was not against reforms, but was in favour of pro-people reforms.
The BJP-ruled states have already decided to reject FDI in the multi-brand retail sector, Prasad clarified and said, "we are against FDI in retail... when we come to power the consequences will follow," in reply to a question on whether BJP will scrap FDI in multi-brand retail if it comes to power at the Centre.
Dwelling on the present political scenario, Gadkari in his opening speech blamed the Congress-led UPA for being corrupt and inefficient, which has resulted in the common man being hit. And BJP seemed to look forward to early elections when the BJP chief said, "the country is standing on the verge of a change. Elections can happen anytime."
When asked whether Gadkari meant BJP was keen on early elections, Prasad said, the party chief was only describing the "present political scenario." But in reply to another question he announced that "BJP is ready for elections anytime."
Posting the BJP’s electoral pitch, Gadkari assured that BJP will follow a "pro-people" line on policies and "the Vajpayee government is our benchmark."
Showcasing BJP as a better alternative to the UPA, Gadkari praised the BJP and NDA ruled states, saying that even in this depressing economic scenario, they have performed well as far as economic growth, social indicators and overall development is concerned, whether it is Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh or Bihar.
Attacking Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Gadkari said, UPA-II is the "most corrupt government since Independence" and it has specialized in marketization of coalition politics.
Calling the UPA a sinking ship Gadkari said that its allies are looking for excuses to jump out of it. He took a dig at Congress by saying that it uses the CBI so much to manage its allies and to harass the opposition that CBI should open an extension counter at Congress headquarters.
