Bus driver applies brake, injured conductor breathes his last

Mangalore: A 55-year-old city bus conductor succumbed to injuries after he fell on the bonnet as the driver applied brake on Tuesday evening.

The deceased is Chandrahas Shetty, a resident of Kariyangala in Bantwal. He was working as a conductor in a city bus named ’ Popular ’ on route no 7.

He fell on an iron rod placed near the bonnet after the driver applied sudden brake at Chilimbi while the bus was plying towards Statebank from Urvastore.

He was immediately rushed to hospital where he breathed his last on October 28.

Mangalore West Traffic police have filed a case.

Financial crisis compels man to end life

Mangalore: A 33-year old man on Thursday, October 30, committed suicide by hanging himself to the ceiling fan at his residence.

The deceased is Uday Kumar (33), a resident of Padupadav.

It is learnt that Uday had borrowed money from a lot of people and that had started getting threat calls. It is suspected that Uday committed suicide owing to pressure that was mounting on him to repay the loan.

Boats capsize at Gangolli, fishermen rescued

Kundapur: Two more traditional fishing boats capsized at mouth of an estuary at Gangolli, after they hit a perilous spot filled with sand in the sea.

Fortunately, other fishermen, who caught a glimpse of the accident rescued all the fishermen on board of the capsized boat named Manjunatheshwar Prasad and brought them to the coast on on Monday evening.

In a similar incident, which was reported on Tuesday evening, another fishing boat named M Devi too capsized at the same place. The fishermen on board were also rescued.

It is said that during low tide, the sand accumulated at the mouth of the estuary poses threat to fishing boats and fishermen causing fatal mishaps.

The fishermen have urged the officials concerned to take steps to dredge the estuary and save the lives of the fishermen.
