Hospital denies treatment to pregnant woman; angry public stage stir

Surathkal: Tense situation prevailed at a private medical college hospital in Mukka after angry crowd gathered outside the hospital protesting against the hospital for allegedly sending back a woman who had gone into labour. The hospital had stated that there were no doctors to handle the case.
It is said that the woman had been consulting the doctors at the same hospital over the last 9 months after following the hospital guidelines of taking a token for treatment.
On Monday, the lady was brought to the hospital by her family members. She was in pain, but the hospital staff, instead of admitting her sent her away on the grounds that there are no doctors. The alert family members then admitted the woman to a private hospital in Surathkal and made sure that the woman was safe.
When the news of the attitude of the hospital staff in Mukka spread, a huge crowd gathered outside the hospital and staged a stir.
The protesters demanded in writing from the hospital that there were no doctors in the OBG Department on Monday.
"The hospital opened here in Mukka about five years ago. Despite huge banners and advertisements that the hospital has expert doctors, the fact is that there are no doctors in the hospital. This is not the first example of this kind. There are several instances where the hospital had sent back patients in urgent need for medical attention stating that there are no doctors," said one of the protesters.
Minister for Health UT Khader has been intimated about the same and the protesters have urged him to intervene.
The mob dispersed only after Surathkal police promised them that a written letter on the situation of the hospital will be handed over to them.
