Karnataka: Mysore Cemetry Vandalised. Christ’s Statue Broken

A Catholic cemetery at Pushpagiri in Mysore was vandalised on Thursday with graves desecrated, tombstones broken and a large statue of Christ fractured. The Metagalli police station and the Mysore Police Commissioner Sunil Agarwal are investigating. The graveyard falls under the parish of Infant Jesus Church nearby. In a meeting with his special cell on minorities yesterday, Mr ST  Ramesh, IPS, DGP of Karnataka told us that the investigation was being monitored directly by Mr AR Infant, Addl DG Law and Order in his HQ. Locals feel that the attack was the handiwork of radicals and not of drunks.

Some 400 false cases against Christians were filed by a biased police force in Karnataka in 2008. All or most of them will be closed, says Mr ST Ramesh who has asked his officers to call for the papers. These cases will be closed by a cabinet decision. This assurance was given to the DG’s Special Cell on Minorities at its first meeting held in his office.

Karnataka: Tumkur Pastors Arrested. House Ransacked. Bibles Desecrated
 

Two pastors were arrested in Karnataka for conducting worship at their residential premises. Pastor Mathew of Indian Pentecostal Church was invited by Pastor Jose of the “Spirit Filled Church “to conduct Sunday worship in his rented House Church in Tumkur district of Karnataka. As the service progressed, a police officer walked into the church, and asked the pastors to stop the meeting, then ransacked the house church and took away Bibles and other Christian literature on March 6. The pastors were then arrested and forcefully taken to the local police station.
 

According to a police source, they were acting on a complaint lodged by a leader of the Hindu radical group called Bajrang Dal who alleged that they were engaging in “forceful conversion activity.” The police detained both the pastors until 9.pm of that night and a complaint was registered against them for forcible conversion. The pastors were then produced before the magistrate on that same night and who released them on a temporary bail.
