Virender Sehwag’s message to Olympics medallist Sakshi Malik is the best ever

NEW DELHI: Cricketer Virender Sehwag is now slaying Twitter like he did bowlers on the cricket pitch.
The other day he tweeted hilarious birthday greetings to Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal.
And his earthy yet swashbuckling style was fully evident in his congratulatory tweet today to wrestler Sakshi Malik who won a bronze in the Rio Olympic games, getting India its first and only medal this far in the 2016 Games. The Nawab of Najafgarh’s tweet was funny, ’punny’, sincere and empowering all at once.

While this tweet will lose a lot in translation, for those who don’t understand Hindi, this is what he was saying: The whole country is now witness (Sakshi) to one thing. When things gets difficult, this country’s women are the bosses (Malik).
See what he did there? Playing on the Olympics medallist’s name to deliver a solid punch to all of India’s patriarchy?

Not just that, proving that he’s one of the most sporting sportspersons ever, Sehwag even retweeted a comment from his parody Twitter account. That comment played on the words ’Shobha’ and ’De’, just like Sehwag’s did with ’Sakshi’ and ’Malik’. It said:
#SakshiMalik ke gale me medal kitna "Sobha De" raha hai na !!!#HappyRakshaBandhan
Translation will do this one absolutely no justice.
Sehwag retweeted this by again punning back. He said:
Bilkul , isliye Shobha Na De aise kaam nahi karne chahiyetwitter.com/Virendrsehwag/…
That means: This is why one shouldn’t say things that are in bad form, or, rather, this is why one shouldn’t behave badly.
You’d have to have been living under a rock if you didn’t get that reference. It’s about Shobha De’s churlish comment on Twitter about India’s Olympics contingent. De, a self-styled "social commentator and opinion-shaper" , had said that the country’s Rio squad was "a waste of money and opportunity."
