MP Shobha Karandlaje urges Union Minister not to collect toll on NH 66 before completion its works
Udupi: Udupi – Chikmagaluru Lok Sabha Member (MP) Shobha Karandlaje has urged the Union Minister for Road Transport, Highways and Shipping Nitin Gadkari not to collect toll at Sasthan and Hejamady toll gates as National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and contractor company is yet complete the four laning works of national highway (NH) 66 between Surathkal and Kundapur.
Shobha urged the Union Minister in a letter on February 03, in the wake protests planned by the locals and organisation for the preparations made by the contractor company to collect toll without completing the four-laning works and works of service roads.
“The four-laning of National Highway 66 between Surathkal and Kundapura is not yet completed. The expansion work is still pending in most of the junctions including Padubidri. The service roads are not yet provided for the smooth and safe journey of the local residents,” MP said in the letter.
“However, the NHAI authorities and the contractor company are together planning to collect the toll at Sasthan, and Hejamady in my Parliamentary constituency with immediate effect. The people of my constituency are strongly opposing to pay toll before the 100% completion of NH -66 expansion works and formation of service roads.”
“Due to the unrest and continued protest, and in order to the agitated people not to take law into their own hands, I request upon your kind self to direct the concerned authorities not to collect toll without 100% completion of the NH expansion project along with the completion of service roads,” Shobha informed the union minister.
