Mangaluru police play good samaritans; help heart patient reach hospital at 3am

MANGALURU: The Mangaluru City Police once again have come for praise for their presence of mind after they helped provide transport for a man with heart ailment in police patrol vehicle to hospital in the wee hours of morning.

The incident occurred on March 16, when Deepak Shantaram Varik, husband of Shravani D Varik, native of Karwar started getting sudden chest pain around midnight. Deepak, an online teacher working at Oxford Global School in city, had returned home on March 16, after a receiving treatment for heart-related disease. However, on the same night around 2.45am, he suddenly started getting heavy chest pain. Since couple stay outskirts of city near Landlinks in the limits of Kavoor police station, their efforts to find a vehicle to go to a hospital went in vain at that witching hour. So they walked few metres from their house and reached Derebail junction.

Shravani said that though they tried to stop vehicles passing by, none responded to them. When couple lost all hope on that night, a city police vehicle from Kavoor Police Station came as life saviour. Sub-Inspector Umesh Kumar, who was on duty, without delaying a minute, made Deepak to sit in the department vehicle and rushed to private hospital in Attavara. "Police came as Good Samaritans when my husband was suffering from chest pain and they have saved him for the jaws of death," she thanked City Police.

As gratitude, couple has written a thanking letter for their humanity and submitted on Thursday evening.

Few days ago, a lone woman from Pune, who was dropped to her destination safely from Mudipu, situated outskirts of city by a Police Patrolling vehicle around 1am, had thanked police for their timely help.

Sapna Melanta R, resident of Talegaon in Pune was helped by a night patrol police vehicle from Konaje Police Station to reach her rented accommodation, after she was stranded at Mudipu junction at 1am. She had written to Mangaluru City Police a thank you letter for their help during midnight. "I deeply appreciate the sense of duty of the Mangaluru Police. This kind of night patrolling vehicle doing a great job making our streets safe and women secure as well confident.... My salute to all the brave officers in the Dakshina Kannada police who put duty before self and the extra mile to make our neighborhoods safer," she had stated in her letter.
