Girls have fared better than boys yet again in the ICSE and ISC exams, results of which were announced on Monday. The Class X and XII exams are conducted by the Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE).

Ananya Maity, a humanities student from the Heritage School in Kolkata, emerged the country topper in Class XII in the Indian School Certificate (ISC) exams. She scored 99.5%, securing 398 out of 400 marks.

The second position was shared by three girls and a boy — Ayushi Srivastava from City Montessori Inter College, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh; Rishika Dhariwal from Jamnabai Narsee School, Juhu, Mumbai; Keerthana Srikanth from Scottish High International School, Gurgaon, Haryana; and Devesh Lakhotia from St Xavier’s Collegiate School, Kolkata.

Three girls, Deepthi S from Dehradun, Vedanshi Gupta and Yukta Meena (both from Lucknow), shared the third position with Kolkata boys Anant Kothari and Sougata Chowdhury. All five scored 99%, with 396 out of 400. While Kothari is a commerce student from St Xavier’s Collegiate School in Kolkata, Deepthi, Chowdhury, Vedanshi and Yukta studied science at the Convent of Jesus and Mary High School, Dehradun; St Xavier’s Collegiate School, Kolkata; City Montessori High School, Lucknow; and St Agnes’ Loreto Day School, Lucknow.

Class X results

In the Class X Indian Certificate of School Education exams, Muskan Abdulla Pathan from Hutchings High School, Pune, and Ashwin Rao from St Paul’s English School, J P Nagar, Bengaluru, grabbed the top slot. They scored 99.4%, securing 497 out of 500 marks.

The second position is shared by Farzan Hoshi Bharucha of Greenlawns High School, Mumbai, and Debashree Pal from Auxilium Convent School, 24 Paraganas, West Bengal. They scored 99.2%, securing 496 out of 500 marks.

Meenakshi S, a student of the Holy Angel’s ISC School, Thiruvananthapuram, and Raghav Singhal, a student of St Mary’s School, Pune, came third. They secured 495 marks out of 500, scoring 99%.

Announcing the results, Gerry Arathoon, chief executive and secretary of the CISCE, said the pass percentage of ICSE students and ISC had gone up by 0.3% and 0.01%, respectively.

While 1,75,299 students appeared for the ICSE examinations, the corresponding number for ISC is 73,633. The overall pass percentage for ICSE students is 98.53 and ISC is 96.47. “Girls have done better than boys in both ICSE and ISC examinations,” Arathoon said.

While the pass percentage of girls in the ICSE examinations has touched 99.03, the corresponding percentage for boys is 98.13. In the ISC (Class XII) exams, the pass percentage for girls has remained at 97.73, while it is 95.39 for boys.

“Like the CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education), we have also followed our moderation policy. We have not touched the scores of students who secured 93% and above. We have done moderation only in the case of those securing below 93%” he said.
