Upset Hindus seek withdrawal of Brazil’s Lord Vishnu beer
 
Upset Hindus have urged Brazil based Cervejaria Colorado to apologize and withdraw its Indian Pale Ale beer carrying the name of Lord Vishnu, calling it highly inappropriate.
 
This beer, named as Vixnu (Vishnu in Portuguese), is described on the company website as (Google Translate): Vixnu, besides being the name of one of the main Hindu deities, is also the name of this delicious variation of the Indian Pale Ale…A pleasant and persistent bitterness, ideal for those who like extreme beers.
 
Distinguished Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, said that inappropriate usage of Hindu deities or concepts or symbols for commercial or other agenda was not okay as it hurt the devotees.
 
Zed, who is president of Universal Society of Hinduism, pointed out that Lord Vishnu was highly revered in Hinduism and he was meant to be worshipped in temples or home shrines and not to be used in selling beer for mercantile greed. Moreover, linking Lord Vishnu with an alcoholic beverage was very disrespectful, Zed added.
 
Hinduism was the oldest and third largest religion of the world with about 1.1 billion adherents and a rich philosophical thought and it should not be taken frivolously. Symbols of any faith, larger or smaller, should not be mishandled, Rajan Zed noted.
 
Lord Vishnu is “preserver” in the Hindu triad with Lord Brahma and Lord Shiva as the aspect of the Supreme. He has ten incarnations to establish dharma (divine law). Moksh (liberation) is the ultimate goal of Hinduism.
 
Award-winning Cervejaria Colorado, based in Ribeirão Preto in São Paulo state of Brazil, was founded in 1996. It claims its products as “very Brazilian” and made with “boldness and originality”. Marcelo Carneiro is the Founder.
 
Vishnu beer, which won Gold Medal at World Beer Awards (England) 2016, has an alcohol content of 9.5%.

Hindus urge yoga-mat firms not to use PFRs which may affect fertility
 
Hindus have urged yoga mat firms not to use PFRs (chemicals commonly used in yoga mats) as Harvard and other researchers recently found that exposure to PFRs may affect fertility.
 
Distinguished Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada today, urged US Consumer Product Safety Commission and its Acting Chairman Ann Marie Buerkle to look into this study and the ingredients used in various yoga mats.
 
Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, also urged various yoga mats labels like Manduka, Lululemon, Jade, Hugger Mugger, prAna, Gaiam, etc.; to have a deeper look at the ingredients used by them if they were serious about the welfare of their consumers.
 
Moreover, one did not really need a fancy yoga mat to practice yoga, a liberation powerhouse referred as “a living fossil”, which was a mental and physical discipline whose traces went back to around 2,000 BCE to Indus Valley civilization, Rajan Zed pointed out.
 
A study by Harvard, Duke & Michigan researchers published in August issue of Environmental Health Perspectives (EHP) states that evidence from animal studies suggests that exposure to organophosphate flame retardants (PFRs) can disrupt endocrine function and impair embryo development.
 
It concluded that concentrations of some urinary PFR metabolites were negatively associated with proportions of successful fertilization, implantation, clinical pregnancy, and live birth.
