A high-school girl from Chitradurga gave an open challenge to Karnataka Social welfare minister H Anjaneya by asking him to provide proper facilities in Government institutions first, and then ask people to join there. The incident happened on Friday, September 22, after the minister’s speech in ’Prathiba Karanji’ event at Government PU college, Chitradurga.

After the speech, Nayana Jogi, a Vidya Vikas school student , who was waiting for the minister below the stage stopped him and demanded him to fix the basic problems that are being faced by the government educational institutions. file photos

Addressing the gathering in the event, Anjaneya said, "People should not neglect government institutions. There are so many stalwarts who have done remarkable achievements by studying in government schools. Sir M Vishveshwaraiah, UR Rao and many others are the best examples."

After the speech, Nayana Jogi, a Vidya Vikas school student , who was waiting for the minister below the stage stopped him and demanded him to fix the basic problems that are being faced by the government educational institutions. She said, "I am ready to join government college for my Pre University education, only if you assure me to fix the problems. There is no proper infrastructure and no healthy environment to study. First you make sure to provide all these basic needs, then I will assure you to get 30 more students along with me next year."

She added, "I had also requested chief minister Siddaramaiaha to address the problems in government institutions but nothing has worked." Anjaneya, who calmly listened to Nayana Jogi, said, "The things that you are demanding are all alredy being provided in Government colleges. You can go and join there."

Later, Nayana gave an open challenge through media and said, "I am giving an open challenge today. Has any of the pro-Kannada organisations or political leaders have made their children to study in government shools? Let our leaders provide proper facility there, and send their kins to those institutions. I will quit the english medium and join government college."
