Doctor says wife tried to kill him, mom-in-law didn’t come to his rescue

A 37-year-old doctor working as an assistant professor at the Bangalore Medical College and Research Centre of the Victoria Hospital has approached the city police claiming that his wife tried to kill him with a coconut grater. He has also accused his mother-in-law for not coming to his rescue when he was “desperately” trying to save himself. He has filed an elaborate complaint with CK Achukattu police, but the cops have summoned the couple to give them an opportunity to amicably sort out the issue since the couple also has a four-year-old son.

In his complaint, the doctor has alleged that his wife, who works as an HR for a reputed IT firm in the city, was persuading him to register his properties in her name, and often resorted to coercion and even physical assault. He reportedly tried to pacify her by handing over the photocopies of the property documents but she flew into a rage and started flinging things at him. She even pulled out his mobile phone from his shirt pocket and threw it at him. His version is that he was forced to push her away in self defence and it was then when she stormed into the kitchen and returned with a coconut grater. She started hitting him on his head with it, till he allegedly began to bleed. The doctor claimed that he was forced to run away in order to save himself. He also said that he was being threatened of being thrown out of his own home unless he handed over the property documents.

“The doctor, a resident of Ramakrishna Paramahamsa Road in Pramod Layout, claims to have been attacked at his wife’s house in Banashankari 3rd stage. The couple were earlier staying in Nagarbhavi and due to regular fights, the husband and wife had left for their respective parents’ homes. The couple have a four-year-old son who is currently with the mother. The doctor would regularly go to see his son at his in-laws’ house. It was during one such visit that his wife asked him to register all his property, including the ones in his parent’s name, in her name,” said an officer, who’s part of the investigation.

“The doctor has claimed that his wife attacked him with the kitchen tool in order to kill him. He was, with the help of his parents, moved to a nearby hospital for treatment. The couple has earlier fought over trivial issues. We are in the process of summoning them to the police station and hear both their versions,” the officer added.

When contacted, the doctor said that a complaint has been filed in this regard. However he refused to elaborate claiming that the matter was personal and he wish not to talk about it.

The CK Achukattu police have registered a case and are further investigating.
