Print | With scorching heat making life difficult, the tourists are rushing to Kodagu district to spend a happy summer in the land of good weather. | |

It is estimated that on an average 3,000-4,000 tourists visit the district everyday. A total of 2,800 tourists visited Cauvery Nisargadhama on Saturday and 765 people visited Dubare elephant camp. The above mentioned number is said to be the record number of visitors this summer. The number of visitors will see a hike during the weekends, informed the sources from Pravasi Kendra. Some of the popular tourist spots are Talacauvery, Bhagamandala, Abbey falls, Cauvery Nisargadhama, Dubare elephant camp, Jungle Judge and Resort, Bailukuppe Tibetan Camp, Bouddha Mandir and Harangi Falls. Cauvery Nisarga Dhama is one of the hotspot among the tourists as it offers them a beautiful view of Bidiru Vana, Jinke Vana, river banks, small huts, and one can experience elephant safari, tree-swing and boat riding. If most of the tourists opt to stay in the guest houses, few tourists prefer to stay in the home stays. The visitors pay visit to Vihara Dhama, Kudlur Veerabhoomi Pravasi Grama, Coorg Halli Mane and Kodagu culture and tradition centre ‘Paramapara’. The number of visitors may increase, but there lies the lack of basic facilities. The tourists, who were opting coastal regions earlier, now prefer mini Kashmir due to the fear of Tsunami in coastal region. The tourists who visit these places are many times misguided as there are no route indicators on the way. Along with it there are no proper guides to guide the tourists. The Tourism Department has to consider the matter and do the needful, says District Kannada Sahitya Parishat President T P Ramesh. The citizens feel that there is a need for the provision of guest houses with affordable prices. |
