KAUP: Udupi district that took the lead in implementing the revenue department’s much-touted Jilladikarigale Hallige Nadiyiri programme has suggested to the government to bring in a few procedural changes that will make it more people-friendly.

For starters, G Jagadeesha, the deputy commissioner has urged the government to waive the Rs 30 fee charged for making changes in succession chart, a move that will speed up the issuance of ‘warris khata’.

In an informal chat with TOI on the sidelines of the second such programme at Palimaru village in the taluk, Jagadeesha said the other change to the programme that the government has brought in is that the top brass of district administration will stay overnight in the chosen village

While the officials will attend to routine administrative issues that the villagers’ space during office hours, post office hours will be used for interaction, he noted.

With revenue minister R Ashoka too taking the lead in undertaking ‘grama vastavya’ that he assured while announcing the launch of the programme here last month, Jagadeesha said cultural activity from the villagers would be the highlight of the village stay.

Interaction with SSLC students and motivating them to succeed in one of the most important examinations in their life will also be an additional activity that the administration will take up, he said.

Visit to a Koraga colony and interaction with the residents there, an inspection of a vented dam to check for ingress of saltwater were some of the other activities that Jagadeesha undertook later in the day.

With Ashoka inquiring about the experience that the administration gleaned from the project at a video conference held a couple of days back, Jagadeesha said a few of the above changes were incorporated into the programme thereafter.

Earlier, Sadashiva Prabhu, additional DC and K Raju, Kundapur assistant commissioner turned teachers to 10th standard students of Government PU College at Palimar.

The duo exhorted the students to take the SSLC examination seriously and use it as a means to further their academic career.

Raju advised students to be focussed and also strive for a career in the armed forces. Both Prabhu and Raju are ex-servicemen.
