Shiv Sena executive authorises Uddhav Thackeray to take action against rebels

The national executive of the Shiv Sena passed a resolution authorising Maharashtra Chief Minister and party chief Uddhav Thackeray to take action against “those who have betrayed the party”, but refrained from taking immediate action against rebel leader Eknath Shinde.

The executive also passed a resolution that no other political outfit or faction can use the name Shiv Sena and the name of its founder Bal Thackeray, even as the Shinde faction said it has named itself as `Shiv Sena (Balasaheb)‘.

Meanwhile, Mr. Shinde alleged that the Maharashtra government has withdrawn the security cover from the residences of 38 party rebels, including himself, and their families, and dubbed the action as “political vendetta”. However, State Home Minister Dilip Walse Patil denied any such move.

Further, the Maharashtra Legislature Secretariat has issued “summons” to 16 rebel Sena MLAs including Mr. Shinde, seeking written replies by the evening of June 27 to the complaints seeking their disqualification.

The party’s chief whip Sunil Prabhu sent the summons to the 16 MLAs, signed by the principal secretary of the Maharashtra Vidhan Bhavan Rajendra Bhagwat. The summons have been issued after none of the MLAs from the rebel faction showed up at a party meeting earlier .
Assam flood situation grim, Silchar submerged for sixth day

The flood situation in Assam continued to remain grim with the death count rising to 118 and Silchar town in Cachar district submerged for the sixth straight day.

In the past 24 hours, 10 more people lost their lives — two each from Barpeta, Dhubri, Karimganj and Udalguri districts and one death each from Cachar and Morigaon.

The total population affected by the floods declined to 33.03 lakh in 28 districts as against the previous day’s figure of 45.34 lakh in 30 districts, a bulletin issued by the Assam State Management Disaster Authority said.

Two drones have also been deployed in Silchar for flood inundation mapping as well as to provide relief materials to the affected people. Eight NDRF teams comprising 207 personnel from Itanagar and Bhubaneswar, along with an Army unit with 120 personnel and nine boats from Dimapur have been stationed in Silchar.

Nearly 3 lakh people are under distress in Silchar with an acute shortage of food, clean drinking water and medicines, the officials said.
