Twenty-one-year-old Nishad Abdul Majid returned to India with only his passport

Dubai: Two years on, a father is continuing unwaveringly a desperate search to find his son who went missing after he boarded a flight back home from Dubai, without informing anyone.

On a Friday night two years ago, 56-year-old Majid Abdul Majid had dinner with his son Nishad, who was 21 at the time. The next morning, Nishad left for work as usual, but never returned home.

Majid, an Indian who hails from Kannur in the south Indian state of Kerala, works as a driver with an Arab household in Umm Al Quwain. His son was employed as an accountant with a real estate company run by a close relative.

In a limbo

Pursuing his trail, the father found that he reached Mangalore.

Investigations by Indian authorities are in a limbo, he said, but Majid hopes that a fresh appeal through the media will urge people to come forward with any information they may have.

"On June 27, 2009, he went to work as usual. He collected his passport from the office, went to the bank and deposited money he was entrusted by the office and then boarded a flight from Dubai to Bengaluru," Majid said, based on what he has managed to find out so far.

"He then boarded another flight the next morning to Mangalore."

After being shown Nishad’s photograph, an airport taxi driver confirmed that Nishad hired his cab from Mangalore Airport to Mangalore railway station. "But we are clueless about what happened further," the father said.

Mobile switched off

"Initially, we only realised something was wrong when he didn’t return home and his mobile appeared switched off continuously."

When he went to report his son missing, it was Umm Al Quwain police who looked up Nishad’s details and informed him that his son had left the country.

Assad Abu Bakr, who runs the company Nishad worked for a year with, said that nothing peculiar had happened on the day, according to colleagues.

"Nishad had discarded a bag he was carrying near the bank and took nothing else but his passport with him."

He added that the family is also attempting to access his personal email accounts.

Nishad’s mother and his younger brother live in India. "We are all hopeful that he is still alive somewhere," the father said.
