Dubai: Six driving institute staffers jailed for forgery and accepting bribes

Print Dubai: Six employees of a driving institute will spend six months in jail each after a court convicted them of accepting bribes and forging applications to obtain driving licenses.
The Dubai Court of First Instance jailed the six Indian employees and ordered them to jointly pay a fine of Dh34,000.
Prosecutors accused the defendants — four clerks, a receptionist and a worker — of accepting bribes to neglect mandatory procedures including examining the original passports of individuals before filling out driving license applications.
They were also charged with forging and using both official and unofficial documents.
Presiding Judge Fahmi Mounir Fahmi said the defendants, a 30-year-old receptionist, M.M., a 34-year-old worker, N.S., and the four clerks, 23-year-old A.A., 24-year-old A.K., 25-year-old M.K. and 27-year-old S.S. will be deported after serving their punishments.
M.M. was responsible for the institute’s section for opening forms to individuals, who apply for a driving license. The institute was affiliated with the RTA.
Abuse
Prosecutors charged M.M. of abusing his duty and accepting Dh6000 in bribes. He was additionally charged with abusing his private service (the private institute’s receptionist) and accepting a Dh6,000 bribe.
M.M. took bribes from applicants, according to prosecution records, to modify the timings to be trained by driving instructors.
A.A., A.K., M.K. and S.S. were charged with aiding and abetting M.M. through abusing their duties and accepting Dh34,000 in bribes from applicants to avoid having their original passports checked.
S.S. was charged with requesting Dh10,000 in bribes from applicants to send them to particular driving instructors.
All the suspects, except N.S., were charged with forging and using two RTA applications.
