Housing and District-In-Charge Minister V Somanna on Tuesday said that vested interests who were unable to witness the growing popularity of BJP in the stronghold of Janata Dal (Secular) pelted stone at him during a public meeting held in Arsikere on Monday.

At a news conference here, he said this incident occurred only because of people turning towards BJP and also support for that party in the ongoing ZP,TP polls.

The party has fielded its candidates in 145 out of the total 150 TP constituencies and at least 40 per cent of candidates would win the elections. No party would get majority in ZP elections.

The BJP would get 50 per cent of the polled votes and the rest would be shared by other parties. "I am leaving the district because of the poll conduct", he added.

Somanna said the deputy commissioner has been instructed to conduct the elections in a free and fair manner and also to ensure that no election malpractices take place in any part of the district.

The candidates and political leaders should be in their respective constituencies. The district administration has to take stern action against those who violate the poll conduct.

The minister said the funds released by the State and Union governments for the development of the district would be utilised after the elections. Already, the CM has announced ` 50 crore special package for the district.

Efforts would be made to get some special packages in the coming days. He travelled extensively in the district because of the elections which helped him to understand the condition of roads in taluk, hobli and villages.

All those roads would be developed after the polls. Besides, special emphasis would be laid on providing other amenities like drinking water and UGD. The CM has evinced keen interest in the development of this district and has promised to visit once in a month, he said adding that all the pending schemes would be completed soon and show the role of his party when it comes to development issue. "I will tender resignation if I can’t provide facilities to rural areas", he added.Former MLA, Hanumegowda, senior advocate, M S Krishnegowda and others were present.
