As a New Year gift for the citizens, the State Government has simplified issuing of birth and death certificates. Accordingly, both the documents would be issued to the people concerned free of cost in the hospitals.
In a press release here, Deputy Commissioner Harsh Gupta has said since most of the births are taking place in hospitals, it would be easy for the persons concerned to collect the birth certificates of the newborns while getting discharged from the hospitals. As per Sec 7(5) of the Birth, Death Registration Act 1969, sub-registration centres are opened at the government hospitals of H D Kote, Hunsur, K R Nagar, Nanjangud, Periyapatna and T Narasipur and station medical officers as sub-registrars with effect from January 1.
Free of cost
The duty of the station medical officers is to issue both the birth and death certificates free of cost. Since all the documents related to birth or death would be in the hospital for the whole year, the people who wanted additional copies may collect by paying the prescribed fees. After one year, those documents would be transferred to the town municipal council or village panchayats and from there also those certificates could be collected.
Gupta said as per theAct, birth, death or born dead registration has been made compulsory. In case of above one thing takes place, the same thing should be registered and obtain the copy.
The birth certificates would contain all details including sex, names of parents, date of birth and nationality and this are the first documents that the new born get. The certificate was necessary in the child’s education, health care and identifying nationality besides for other things pertaining to legal matters. It would act as a proof of age for the kid when he/she grows up, he added.
