‘Pitty’s relative supplied knives to kill Vinod Shettigar’

Print Udupi, January 14: Murderers of Vinod Shettigar revealed that one of the relatives of Pitty Nagesh, who was brutally murdered a few months ago, supplied them knives to kill the former.
Rowdy sheeter Vinod Shettigar (33), an under-trial in the murder attempt of Pitty Nagesh was stabbed to death by three of the jail-mates in the Udupi District Jail, at Anjaru near Hiriadka on Friday morning. Vonod was an accomplice of underworld criminal Ravi Poojary.
At around 7.30 am on Friday, Mutthappa, his brother Nagaraj (both are residents of Brahamvar), Sharanappa Koppala and Sheikh Riyaz Mysore accused in several criminal cases including murder, murder attempt and theft cases, stabbed Vinod over 15 times to death. At the time of the attack Vinod was reading newspaper.
According to sources, on Thursday evening jail-birds had celebrated the birthday of one Nagaraj, an accused in over 15 cases. Mutthappa’s wife Sheela had supplied a huge cake with knives in to the jail. Using the knives the accused murdered Vinod, it is learnt.
Rowdy Nagesh allias Pitty Nagesh’s hand is suspected in the murder. At the instance of Pitty Nagesh, a gang of four had attacked Pitty with talwars, near Diana Theater Kukkikatte, near here, in an attempt to kill him.
In a retaliation for his murder bid, Pitty is suspected to hired the jailmates to kill Vinod.
Judicial Magistrate Nandhish and Superintendent of Police Pravin Pawar visited the spot for inquest. CPI Brahmavar Krishnamurthy is investigating the case.
Mutthappa speaking to media persons in the court premises said that a Pitty’s relative had handed over the knife to him to kill Vinod Shettigar.
The accused were produced before the court and were remanded to police custody.
