Bollywood has always stepped up in time of need. Be it through their movies or through their pockets, many Bollywood stars have been socially involved in the past. This time too, many of them have come together to support the victims of the devastating Uttarakhand floods.
At the helm of this fund raising project is none other than Bollywood’s own social activist, Amir Khan. We hear that Amir Khan has donated Rs. 25 Lakhs and is encouraging his contemporaries to do the same as well.

Apart from Amir Khan, actors like Anupam Kher and Shabana Azmi have donated Rs.1 Lakh and Rs.5 Lakhs respectively.

Talking about the contribution from their side, Shabana Azmi said "More funds are coming in. So we should be able to manage a substantial amount."

The contributions of the actors will go to the proceeds of the PM Relief Fund on behalf of the Film and Television Producers’ Guild. It had also been recently announced that the FWICE (Federation of Western Indian Cine Employees) and Film and TV Producers’ Guild will adopt a village and help as many victims of the floods as possible, to settle back to basic life.

These funds are coming in from various other sources in greater numbers. For example, yesteryear star Shatrugan Sinha has contributed Rs. 50 Lakhs from his MP Funds and so has Javed Akhtar.

It was surprising to see the veteran lyricist, Javed Akhtar tweet about the contribution. He had posted “Aamir has send 25 lakhs .both he and Shabana are collecting funds for relief. Shatru n I have pledged 50 lakhs each from our MPLAD funds.”

While we think Javed Akthar’s tweet is not very necessary, it actually is! Because there is an entire Bollywood brigade on twitter, who have just been tweeting about condolences and prayers. Especially, this famous 70 year old actor, who has an ‘extended family’ on twitter, had posted “A moment of prayer for those that suffered the floods in Uttarakhand. Many stuck, many lost. Army doing incredible job! Salute.”

On the other hand, King Khan too had gone on social networking to render support. His tweet read “As insignificant as we are against Nature’s fury, a prayer of Hope for all suffering in Uttarakhand. May Allah give them strength & safety.”

Though we don’t deny their concern, it would be nice to get generous in times of calamity as well? Or shall we say, take a leaf out of Amir’s books for once!
