Bangalore: They were on the terrace discussing their engagement, scheduled for latter part of this month. Roshan Mandal (25) went down to fetch water, leaving his 23-year-old fiancee Swagathika Das sitting on the parapet wall. When he returned with water, he could not find her. He called out to her and then looked around. When there was no response, he looked down to find her in a pool of blood on the ground floor.

The incident took place on Monday at around 10.30pm at Roshan’s house at Konappana Agrahara in Electronic City police station limits.

The two, hailing from Jharkand, had come down to the city a year ago. While Swagathika, a computer engineer, joined Infosys, Roshan, an electrical engineer, joined American Power Conversion ( APC). In a get-together of people from Jharkand, the two got introduced. Incidentally, both of them were staying in opposite apartments at Konena Agrahara.

After a brief courtship, the two decided to get married and sought their parents’ consent. The two families met and gave their nod. The families decided to have a formal engagement by February end and the wedding by March/April this year.

However, things went wrong on Monday night when Swagathika came to Roshan’s house. Since both lived in apartments on sharing basis with their friends, the two went to the terrace to talk. While they were talking, Swagathika, who was sitting on the parapet wall, wanted to drink water. Roshan went down to get water and returned in a few minutes only to find her dead.

NO FOUL PLAY: Electronic city inspector Premasai Gundappa Rai said police were not suspecting any foul play. "Swagathika’s brother Ashirwad Das, who is studying B Tech in the city, had come to the police station. He did not suspect anything wrong with their relationship,’’ he said.

The family members of both Swagathika and Roshan are expected to reach the city late in the night. "We have to see what comes out in the post-mortem and what statement Swagathika’s parents would give. So far, it looks like an accident,’’ he added.
