In an exciting IPL mock auction organised by Aspera, the NEN Entrepreneurship Cell at Vidyavardhaka College of Engineering (VVCE), Dhoni was the highest paid player grabbing $ 9.75 million.

Deccan Herald and Prajavani are media partners for the event. The IPL mock auction organised by Suyash Srivastava, Ashray T M and Syed Tameem Mohammed had 10 teams participating at the college premises. Two teams were eliminated during the written quiz.

With a purse of $ 90 million, the remaining eight teams had to select a team with five batsmen, four bowlers, one wicket keeper and one all-rounder. Best performances in recent Twenty-20 and previous IPL matches were the criteria for selection. While Chennai Super Kings took the pride of highest bid team for $ 48.5 million, Bangalore came close being sold for $ 42.5 million. The five most sought after batsmen were Suresh Raina, Robin Uthappa, Mahela Jayawardane, Shaun Marsh and Jessie Ryder for a combined $ 37 million.

Lowest paid

The lowest paid players were Rahul Dravid, Eoin Morgan, Davey Jacobs, Cheteswar Pujara and Callum Ferguson for $ 19 million. Among bowlers, it was a group comprising Zaheer Khan, R Ashwin, Pragyan Ojha and Peter Siddle, who were the highest paid with $ 17 million. The lowest paid were Vinay Kumar, Brett Lee, Johan Botha and Kyle Mills for only $4.5 million. All-rounder Jacques Kallis was wrapped up for $ 8.5 million, second only to Dhoni’s bid. The lowest bid in the category was for Shakib-Al-Hassan at $ 1.5 million.

Winners

Rahul Khatri and Sandeep M R of eighth semester, Electrical and Electronics, emerged winners by picking Rajasthan Royals for a price of $ 45 million. Sumith Kumar, Anjan Kumar, Pradeep D G and Kumar Gaurav of sixth semester, Mechanical, bagged the second place.

Girish Kumar M R, Arjun R, Chetan and Navin Kumar of sixth semester, Electronics and Communication (E&C) won the third place.

Housie-Housie

Apart from IPL mock auction, games including Housie-Housie and Bluffmaster were organised by Pradhan. In Housie-Housie, Thejaswini of sixth semsester E&C won the first place, while second semester student Kunal Ganguly bagged the second place.

Second semester, Mechanical Engineering student Darshan was the ‘Bluffmaster’.
Earlier, a spirituality seminar by Priyamani was attended by many. She emphasises on the need to increase the ability to compose peace, joy and enlightenment within yourself. The students also underwent a meditation session.

Today’s schedule

Various events are lined up for February 10. A concert by ‘Orgin’ and ‘Black Peter’ the college bands is scheduled at the Sahukar Channaiah Auditorium at 5.30 pm. For foodies, there is an exlusive event titled ‘Food Mela’ from 10.30 am to 5 pm. They can try various tastes satiating their appetite. A poetry competition is also a part of the event.
Placement and Training Seminar Hall is the venue, where the contest will be held between 10.30 am and 12 pm.

The college canteen will host the Drink ‘o’ Mania and ‘Rocket Singh’ will begin at 10.30 am.  ‘War of words’, a debate competition will begin at 12 noon at P&T Seminar Hall followed by ‘Double your money’ between 1 pm and 3 pm.

Motivational speaker Sujith Lalwani will deliver an ‘e-talk’ at the Sahukar Channaiah Auditorium between 2 pm and 5 pm.
