Maharashtra Governor pays tribute to police martyrs on Police Commemoration Day

Maharashtra Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao laid a wreath at the Police Martyr’s memorial at Police Headquarters at Naigaon, Mumbai on the occasion of Police Commemoration Day.

The Governor read out a message paying tribute to the police officers and personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty on this occasion. Names of police martyrs during the year 2013-14 were read out. The parade presented ‘Shok Shastra’ and fired three rounds on this occasion.

State Chief Secretary Swadheen Kshtriya, Additional Chief Secretary Amitabh Rajan, DGP Sanjeev Dayal, Commissioner of Police Rakesh Maria and other officers and police personnel were present on the occasion.

The history of commemoration Day traces back to 21stOctober 1959, when a patrol party of CRPF, led by SI Karan Singh, was ambushed by the Chinese forces at Hot Springs Ladakh and 10 jawans were killed.  The bravery and resultant sacrifice of jawans fighting at 16,000 ft altitude, in extremely cold conditions and against all odds, is an epitome of the rarest of the rare courage. 

On 21st October every year, the Commemoration Parade is held as a mark of respect to police martyrs, who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.  The arms are reversed and two minutes silence is observed in the honour of the departed souls.  The names of police martyrs are read out, to acknowledge the supreme sacrifices made by them.

Cleanliness Ambassadors meet Maharashtra Governor.

 Three of the nine Ambassadors of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in Maharashtra Monika More, Anjali Bhagwat and singer Sunidhi Chouhan had a luncheon meeting with State Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao at Raj Bhavan, Mumbai on Tuesday. The Governor discussed various ideas about making the cleanliness campaign participatory and visible. Smt Ch Vinodha, wife of the Governor, Vikas Chandra Rastogi, Secretary to the Governor and Monika’s mother were also present.
