Mangalore : The medical examination of Vivita alias Sonia D’Souza, the girl who married Bajrang Dal activist Roshan Shetty on October 16 at Arya Samaja and later alleged her husband and five others of forcing her into the marriage, was conducted on Friday, October 24.

After living with Roshan for four days, Sonia left him and returned to her parents and filed a case of kidnap and attempt to outrage her modesty in Konaje Police Station against VHP leader Jagdish Shenava, Praveen, Sharath, Ganesh Kumpala, Dinesh Kadri and her husband Roshan Shetty.

Police said that Sonia was produced before the court and the next course of action would be decided after the statement copy reached them.

Statements of witnesses, officials at registrar and sub-registrar office had to be recorded, the police added.

In her complaint Sonia has stated that Roshan, who is an acquaintance of her had asked her for some money. Hence when she met Roshan at Central Market at 11 a.m. she was given a juice which rendered her unconscious. She was later taken to various places in the city and Roshan had also tried to assault her sexually.

She said she was later taken to an advocate, where she was forcibly made to sign some documents. The gang of VHP leaders and Roshan had threatened her of dire consequences if she did not marry Roshan on October 16.

Student commits suicide in hostel

Belthangady: A teenager from Bangalore, studying in a private college at Ujire, was found dead in her hostel room on Friday, October 24.

The deceased, identified as Laxmishwari (18), was a first year Polytechnic student. She had ended her life by hanging herself to the ceiling of the hostel room. While the reason behind the girl taking this extreme step is not yet ascertained, the Belthangady police have shifted the body to a hospital and are waiting for the parents to arrive before taking up further investigation.

Two bikers lose life in separate road mishaps

Manipal/Kundapur : Two bikers lost their lives in two separate road mishaps that took place in Udupi district.

In the first incident that came to light on Friday, October an unidentified body of a middle aged man was found on the roadside at lower Parkala, near Manipal.

It has been suspected that the accident must have occurred on Thursday, October 23 during heavy rain.

The bike of the deceased was found in close proximity to the spot where the body was recovered.

Manipal Police are investigating the matter.

Two wheeler dies in Kundapur

In another incident, a 40-year-old man was killed when his two-wheeler collided with a lorry at Sangam Junction, Kundapur on Friday, October 24.The deceased is Ganesh Poojary of Mullikatte Devale. Ganesh was a realtor and had come to the city on some work.

The accident occurred when he was on his way back home.

A case has been registered by Kundapur Traffic Police.

RTI activist files complaint against PDO

Karkala : A Right To Information (RTI) activist from Beltangady has registered a complaint against Panchayat Development Official (PDO)Sudhakar Shetty of Maala at the Karkala Rural Police Station alleging the official of posing life threat to him.

Hariprasad, a resident of Irvatraya, Beltangady, in his complaint stated that on October 20 afternoon, when he had been to the Maala Gram Panchayat to pay the fee for information sought under the RTI act, PDO Sudhakar Shetty asked him to sign a book randomly. Upon refusing to do as demanded, Sudhakar forcefully handed over some receipt to him.

Hariprasad also mentioned that Sudhakar also threatened him if he refused to sign the paper.

In contrary to this, a complaint by Sudhakar already stands registered against the complainant Hariprasad alleging that he used to obstruct Sudhakar from discharging his duty.

Masked men tie up family of three, rob valuables, cash

Siddhapur : A gang of masked men robbed a farmer of valuables worth Rs 1 lac and Rs 30,000 in cash after tying him, his wife and son up at their house at Irige of Hallihole village in Kundapur Taluk on Thursday, October 23 night.

The police said a gang of 10-12 masked men barged into the house of Raghavendra Rao when he was watching television along with his wife Prabhavathi and Kiran. The trio was tied and cloth was thrust in to their mouths. The robbers then brandished a knife and threatened to kill them if they retaliated. While Raghavendra Rao was tied in the hall, his wife and son were tied in the room.

Surprisingly the robbers are said to have turned on the fan and given water to the trio and also touched Raghavendra Rao’s feet.

The robbers also smashed two landline phones and removed the sim from the mobile phone before committing the crime.

The shawls, masks, knives and gloves used for crime were left back in the house by the robbers.

DySP C B Patil, Circle Inspector Diwakar, DCIB SI Jayashankar, Shankarnarayan SI Dejappa Finger print experts and dog squad were part of the team that conducted investigation.

A special team has been formed to trace the robbers.
