Udupi : Sunday, the first of February 2015 people of Udupi will get see a variety of dogs, all lined up to be judged at the Karavali Canine Club’s 2^nd Open Show and Bangalore Canine Club’s 32^nd and 33^rd All Breeeds Championship Dog Show to be held at Udupi.

Speaking with the media persons at Udupi,  Vishwanath Kamath Joint Secretary of Karavali Canine Club said that from 10am on Sunday all three shows will be held, with around 150 dogs from over 25 breeds participating at the MGM College ground, Udupi.

Judges for these shows – are Mr. K. K. Trivedi and Dr. Mathew C John from India and Mr. Yogesh Tuteja from India who will be judging the Open show.

Judging will be on the basis of conformation, which means that the judge will award the dog that appears to be closest to the breed standard. In a bid to encourage ‘Bred in India’ dogs, there shall be a special prize for the Best in show Bred in India which will encourage the exhibitors to breed better dogs within the country rather than encouraging imports on a regular basis.

The show will also witness junior handling competition wherein child handlers will exhibit their handling skills and walk away with the best Junior Handler’s prize.

His Holiness Sri Laxmivara Theertha Swamiji, Shirur Mutt, will be blessing the function. Mr. Pramod Madhwaraj local MLA and Mr. Yuvaraj President, Udupi Muncipal will participate as chief guests.

Prize distribution ceremony will be done by Mr. Annamalai K. S. P. of Udupi District., Shobha Karandlaje, MP, Yashpal Suvarna President of Fisheries Fedration Udupi & DK.

A dog show is like a beauty contest for dogs. There are more than 300 registered breeds and each breed has a specified breed standard as per international norms. While judging, the judge basically liiks at how close to that breed standard each dog resembles. There are seven classes in each breed according to the age group. Among the winners of these classes, the judge will select the Best Breed and Best of Group. At the end of the day, all the Best of Groups assemble and amidst great excitement the judge will finally select the Best in Show.The shows will be a visual feast with top dogs from all breeds participating.

Along with Vishwanath Kamath  present during the press meet were Kiran Kumar Vice President of Karavali Canine Club and Nishith R. K. Rao Treasure of the club.
