Hinduism targeted by its own members: Pejavar seer
Hindu religion has suffered shocks not from people of other communities, but from within the community, said Udupi Pejavar Mutt seer Vishwesha Theertha Swamiji.
He was speaking at the Bruhat Hindu Samajotsava organised by Vishwa Hindu Parishad and other organisations on the occasion of the golden jubilee celebrations of the Parishad at Nehru Maidan here on Sunday.
A few have even spoken about burning ‘Bhagavad Gita,’ the religious doctrine of Hindus. But instead of Bhagavad Gita, which gives the message of religion and service, their lack of knowledge should be burnt. Bhagavad Gita considers everyone equal and it never entertains casteism, which is based on birth.
Those who consider themselves as intellectuals don’t show courage to speak on Quran or Bible, but they just pass baseless comments on Gita, the seer said.
He criticised those who oppose re-conversion of those who converted to other religions under pressure, for their double standards.
“I oppose conversion and re-conversion both, if it is by pressure,” he said. Meanwhile, the seer said that those who re-convert into Hindu community may select any of the caste of their wish, even the Brahmin community.
The seer called upon Hindu youth to be ready to fight for the community, and asked them not to attack other communities. Don’t pelt stones on churches, let us work together for the upliftment of the poor of our own community.
Commitment to Hinduism and harmony towards other religions should be our policy, he said. Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari Dr D Veerendra Heggade said that Vishwa Hindu Parishad played a major role in uniting Hindu society in the past 50 years. It organised several activities for the financial and religious equality of people. Meanwhile, Heggade opined that Samajotsava was not just a celebration, but a forum to decide the future. The rituals and culture of the community should be developed.
The community should feel confidant and others should not feel insecure, he said.
VHP Central Advisory Committee Member Sadhwi Balika Saraswati, in her keynote address which she started with ‘Ellarigu Nanna Namaskaragalu,’ said that courts will not decide Ram Mandir issue, because it is the right of Hindus.
Not only Akbaruddin Owaisi, but the whole Pakistan cannot stop us from building Ram Mandir. “He should remember that Hindus can build Ram Mandir even in Islamabad,” she said.
She said that laws apply only for Hindus. “In Kerala and Assam, I have seen people performing Namaz five times a day on roads against law. They don’t follow the order of the Supreme Court.
They get subsidy for Haj pilgrimage, but we get nothing for Amarnath Yatra. Ghar Wapsi is being depicted as a big crime in media, but one can understand the pain only when our girls get converted into other religion overnight. Conversion is still going on in Jharkhand and many other states.”
She opined that the community can stop cow slaughtering by not selling cows and treating them as mother. Every woman should take care of at least one cow to stop cow slaughtering in the nation. Meanwhile, Dr Heggade released ‘Amruta Sinchana,’ a souvenir of Vishwa Hindu Parishad.
Resolutions
Two resolutions were passed in the Samajotsava including banning narcotic drugs in the district and another resolution to demand the Central government to implement a strong law to stop illegal cattle trafficking, cow slaughtering and religious conversion. Earlier, a huge procession from Ambedkar Circle to Nehru Maidan with nine tableaus and thousands of people marked the celebrations.
Sri Rajayogi Ramananda Swamiji, Rajashekharananda Swamiji, Sri Charukeerti Bhattaraka Swamiji, Sri Jitakamananda Swamiji and others were present.
‘Police thinking of booking Sadhvi’
The speech by Sadhvi Balika Saraswati during the Hindu Samajotsava at Nehru Maidan here on Sunday was provocative, according to Police Commissioner S. Murugan. The police are thinking of filing a case, he added. “The speech is indeed provocative. We are considering action,” Mr. Murugan said. The police have also taken note of the organisers extending the programme beyond 5.30 p.m., the allotted time of closure, he said.
Earlier, while addressing presspersons on security measures for the Samajotsava, Mr. Murugan said: “Any violation will not go unpunished.”
Shops closed
Many shops, business establishments and malls in the city remained closed. While many owners had closed shops voluntarily in some areas police asked them to close down as a precautionary measure.Check-posts had been set up on several roads by the police to screen vehicles coming into the city.
Unlike earlier events, the Samajotsava was not telecast live in the local cable network. “I have seen earlier events sitting in the house. But I had to come out this time,” said Shanta Karkera, a 75-year-old resident of Pandeshwar, who found it hard to hear the Sadhvi’s speech by sitting on the pavement near the A.B. Shetty Circle.
Some people climbed up the trees abutting the maidan to have glimpse of the proceedings. There were many people on the road between the Town Hall and the A.B. Shettty Circle struggling to hear and see the glimpse of the stage.
There was brisk business for the pani puri vendors, ice cream and water bottle sellers at the maidan.
