Siddaramaiah, CM of Karnataka confers journalism award

Karnataka Chief Minister,  Siddaramaiah said that journalism, is the fourth filler of democracy.  It should work with professionalism and diligence to ensure that the sector does not lose the trust, it enjoys among the peoples.

He was speaking after inaugurating a function organized by Karnataka information and publicity Department, Bengalure at Sulochana Sabhangana on Friday, the 27th March for conferring TSR memorial awards, Mohare Hanumantharaya journalism, Development journalism and environment journalism for 2012 and 2013.

The Chief Minister noted that even electronic media many a time seeks to sensationalize and glamorizes personal news like fight between couples, parents fighting, supernatural news etc., Instead, they can serve the society better by spreading down-to-earth news items in an objective way, he stressed. 

TSR Memorial Journalism Awards were conferred on N Arjun Dev and Eshwar Daithota for the years 2012 and 2013 respectively. Raghavendra Aravind Rao Joshi was awarded Mohara Hanamanth Rao Journalism Award for 2012, while K B Ganapathi received this award for 2013.

Development Journalism Award for 2012 was conferred on Anshi Prasanna Kumar and Dr Sadananda Perla, Programme Executive of All India Radio, Mangalore for 2013. Environment Journalism Awards was given to Dr Narendra Rai Derla and Deepak Sagar for these two years.

Veteran broadcaster Dr. Sadananda Perla, speaking on behalf of awardees,  said that development journalism attempts to, document the conditions within a country so that the larger world can understand them.  Journalists are encouraged to travel to remote areas, interact with the citizens of the country, and report back.  This type of development journalism also looks at proposed government projects to improve conditions in the country, and analyzes whether or not they will be effective.  Ultimately, the journalist may come up with proposed solutions and actions in the peace, suggesting ways in which they might be implemented.  Often, this type of development journalism encourages a cooperative effort between citizens of the nations and the outside world.  Lastly he said, receipt of this award, will increase my responsibility in this society.

Dr. Sadananda Perla who is presently working in All India Radio, Mangalore as Programme Executive.  He joined All India Radio, Gulbarga as Transmission Executive during 1994 and transferred to AIR, Mangalore.  He completed 26 years in Media.  He served as reporter and sub editor in ‘Prati Soorya’’ daily then he joined ‘’Samyukta Karnataka’a daily leading news papers in Karnataka.

President of the awards selection committee, Arali Nagaraj, information minister, Roshan Baig, and president of Karnataka Madhyama Academy, M A Ponnappa, Information & Publicity Dept. Chief Secretary Dr. Nagambika Devi and Director N.R. Vishukumar  were present.
