More huts for tourists at Malpe beach

UDUPI: More number of huts will be constructed on Malpe beach for the convenience of tourists visiting the beach, DC T Venkatesh said. Presently, the beach has six huts that are in a dilapidated state. While these huts will be repaired, Malpe Beach Development Committee will construct six additional huts and this task will be entrusted to Udupi City Municipal Council, Venkatesh said chairing the meeting of the committee here, on Wednesday.

Taking into consideration the blueprint submitted by the owners of 24 shops on the beach to come up with a uniform kiosk design, Venkatesh said the committee and the owners will share the cost on a 50:50 basis.

Venkatesh directed the beach committee to strictly ensure that the owners did not sublet the kiosks allotted to them, sold only quality items, don’t encroach on pathways created for tourists and ensure cleanliness of their surroundings.

Taking a serious note of the Rs 1.80 lakh bill raised by the DK telecom district of BSNL for the Wi-Fi services provided at the beach for a period of three months and also, based on complaints that the WiFi signals were not consistent enough, Venkatesh directed the commissioner of Udupi CMC to discuss with the BSNL authorities to explore the possibility of providing free Wi-Fi services. Every user gets a limited free WiFi accessibility at the beach on individual number.

Taking note of the requests from the district police authorities, he directed the CMC to provide umbrellas for police personnel deputed on duty there as well as fix reflectors to the road humps and enough barricades to help police regulate traffic.

Venkatesh also suggested that the high mast lamps at the beach should be replaced with energy efficient LED lamps and more directional signs boards placed at vantage points to help visitors reach the area with ease.

To a complaint about few house owners constructing rooms illegally, he directed the CMC to remove such unauthorized constructions immediately and seek police help, if needed. Venkatesh while directing the authorities to rectify the damage caused to the interlock tiles laid near the beach due to sea erosion, said he will undertake a spot inspection and look into improving vehicle parking facility and set up an auto rickshaw park.
