Mumbai, 24 October, 2016: Hon’ble Maharashtra Chief Minister Shri Devendra Fadnavis presided over a first-of-its-kind event at the iconic Bharat Diamond Bourse (BDB) in Mumbai wherein Gem & Jewellery National Relief Foundation (GJNRF) presented relief cheques to the families of Uri martyrs. The event is supported by Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council, Bharat Diamond Bourse and Mumbai Diamond Merchants’ Association. Shri. Fadnavis handed over relief cheques of Rs 10 lakhs to each family of victims of Uri terror attack.

Jewellers and traders at Bharat Diamond Bourse were overwhelmed by patriotic fervour as the families of Uri martyrs gathered at the Volleyball Court in the august presence of distinguished State dignitaries and key functionaries of apex trade bodies. Hon. Chief Minister Shri Devendra Fadnavis along with Mrs. Amruta Fadnavis set the tone when they consoled the families who had made the supreme sacrifice for the sake of the nation. Shri Fadnavis, who inaugurated the state of the art data centre at the Diamond Bourse today, described the gesture of offering tribute to the families of Uri attack martyrs as a “landmark initiative that support the families of our soldiers over the years.  I am happy to note that the diamond merchant community regularly support the cause of our soldier families and congratulate the people in the sector for providing all kind of supports including financing education to the children of our soldiers”.

Shri Praveenshankar Pandya, Chairman, GJEPC & GJNRF said, “I express my deep gratitude to our Chief Minister Shri Devendra Fadnavis for gracing this solemn occasion. Our soldiers are our real diamonds! On the eve of the festival of lights, we jewellers, hope to bring a ray of light to the families whose grief is too wide to be bridged. This initiative signifies the gem & jewellery industry’s commitment towards the betterment of society.”

This ‘act of giving’ to India’s armed forces is a step that will open the floodgates of constantly recognizing the contribution of our soldiers. The value of their contribution to our society.”

The gem & jewellery industry set up the Gem & Jewellery National Relief Foundation (GJNRF) in 1999 to carry out its charitable and philanthropic activities.  In the past, GJNRF was in the forefront, aiding victims of calamity, war, terror in every possible way, thereby serving the society and making a huge difference in their lives with new commitments and promises. Some of the past activities industry include:
