Severe Water Scarcity Haunts Udupi Town; Baje Dam Water Storage Stands at 1.80 Meter
Udupi: Udupi town is under severe drinking water shortage as water storage level in Baje dam is limited for only two to three days. Water storage level was seen at 1.80 meter as on Friday in Baje dam, less when compared to 3.19 meter recorded during the same day, last year. Baje dam is the only major drinking water source for Udupi town.
Meanwhile, Udupi City Municipal Council (UCMC) has assured that it would take steps to continue to supply water for 15 to 20 days from bore-wells, wells located in the town area limits. At present, water is being pumped from Baje to Udupi town for 15 hours continuously and 12 million liters of water pumped every day.
UCMC authorities have turned their focus on alternative water sources in the town which includes 9 bore-wells and 7 wells to resolve water issue in the town. As many as 15 government owned wells have been repaired by the authorities to pump water from them.
UCMC has served notice to 1, 700 town residents in-connection with excess drinking water consumption. Strict action would be taken against who consume excess water in the town area limits, the authorities said. The public can inform the authorities through 0820-208108108 if they found excess water consumption, water wastage in town area limits.
