New Delhi, July 20: Much to the excitement of school-going kids, taking a tour of the Science Express Exhibition Train was nothing less than a fanfare. Thousands of kids gathered to witness the wonders of Science & Technology starting from Roha for a day and then it will be on the display at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) from July 19-22. Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu inaugurated the Science Express Climate Action Special Exhibition Train through video conferencing on Tuesday from New Delhi.
The Science Express Climate Action Special (SECAS) II is a mobile science exhibition organised by the Department of Science and Technology to raise awareness about the threat of climate change. The SECAS II, a train with 16 air-conditioned coaches arrived at CSTM platform number 10 at 10 AM on Wednesday. The initiative has been undertaken by the DST in cooperation with several other government departments as well as private entities acting as knowledge partners. The train will be stationed at CSMT on platform no 10 and will be open to the public from 10 AM to 5 PM.

The Science Express Exhibition Train was launched in October 2007 and has made eight tours of the country so far.
It has travelled around 1, 56,000 km and exhibited at 507 locations. The exhibition train so far had 1.68 crore visitors.
The exhibition train was launched on Tuesday and was thrown open for public at Roha for a day and then Mumbai’s CSTM from July 19-July 22.
This is the ninth edition of the Science Express Climate Action tour. The ninth tour has been is scheduled this year from February 17 to September 8.
The current, ninth phase of the Science Express was flagged off on February 17, 2017 from Delhi’s Safdarjung railway station and is believed to be exhibited at 68 stations across the country.
It has had 12 entries in the Limca Book of Records. The SECAS II was flagged off in February this year, with 53 people on board.
The Science Express has become the largest and the longest running and the most visited mobile science exhibition. As per reports, minimum 5,000 students have visited Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSTM) railway station on Wednesday to visit the exhibition train. The special train is an innovative mobile science exhibition train that has been mounted on a 16 coach AC train. It has been travelling across India since October 2007.
The exhibition covers a wide range of subjects that are related to climate change and global warming and measures to be taken to adapt to these growing issues. The train also covers detailed descriptions about the biodiversity of the planet, water resources, forests and human health. The exhibition aims to showcase how the chaos caused by the human activity leads to disastrous consequences across the globe.
