Jnanpith Laureate Chandrashekhara Kambara to Inaugurate Manipal University Lit Fest

Manipal: Manipal University will host three day long Manipal International Literature and Arts Platform (MILAP) from September 15 to 17 spearheaded by Dr Neeta Inamdar, Chief Editor of Manipal University Press. The three-day event will be primarily conducted in the Manipal Centrefor Philosophy and Humanities (MCPH)campus with certainyouth events in the MIT campus, Syndicate hall and the Planetarium auditorium.As the first Literature and Arts festival of Manipal University, MILAP will offer a wide range of events consisting of translation workshop, literary meet, book fair, film festival, art exhibition, photography exhibition, cultural evenings, and youth events.

The main event will be inaugurated by the Jnanpith laureate, Chandrashekhara Kambara along with renowned Kannada writer, Vaidehi, and the Vice Chancellor of Manipal University, Dr H. VinodBhat on September 15 at Gangubai Hanagal Auditorium, MCPH.

Inauguration of fest will also have a release of five books by Manipal University Press (MUP) published under MUP’s Series – Indian Literature in Translation. Interestingly, these books include translations of both Chandrashekhar Kamabar’s Mahamayi and Vaidehi’s Muntada Kela Putagalu both on stage for inauguration. Apart from the two, English translation of Swapnasaraswata of Gopalakrishna Pai, Bamonn of  Na D’Souza, and Sanskrit translation of Shivarama Karanth’s Chomanadudi are being released.

The Literary meet and Translation workshops will cover talks, discussions, and conversations on various literary topics; contemporary and historic by expert authors, critics and translators, while the film festival will include discussions along with various movie screenings. The Book Fair will also have the provision to exchange books. The Art and Photography Exhibitions will focus on art in literature and print, while the cultural and liberal arts will be covered through cultural evenings and youth events. The Manipal Journal will be the official media partner for the event.

The three-day event will witness around 41popular literary figures from all across the country with Prof Chandrasekhara Kambara, O LNagabhushana Swamy, Girish Kasaravalli, N Manu Chakravarthy, AnjumKatyal, ShantaGokhale, ArunajeePatil, K V Akshara and many othersengaging in multiple interactions and panel discussions.The cultural evenings begin with the Play Mahamayi written by Prof Kambara on September 15. This would be followed by a Taalamaddale in English by M S Samaga and team on September 16 and a dance performance by Diya Naidu and team on September 17.

With around 25 entries for the short-film competition and over 200 registrations for the main event, MILAP is all set to be a success. With a collaborative venture between multiple institutions under the penumbra of Manipal University, the campus-town is all geared up to witness its first ever literature and arts platform to facilitate the spirit of communication and convergence among one and all.
