174 cars to be flagged off in WIAA 10th Women’s Rally

Mumbai: A total number of 174 cars will be flagged off during the 10th edition of the Women’s Car Rally to the Valley” which is scheduled to be held on Sunday, 25th March, 2018. Almost 696 women, including drivers and navigators, will be participating in this much-anticipated annual event, conducted exclusively for women and being organized by the Western India Automobile Association (WIAA) in partnership with Lavassa City. The Rally also has the support of JK Tyres and Motul.

Nitin Dossa, the executive chairman of WIAA, said this Car Rally is basically being organized to spread the message of women’s safety. “It’s a rally with a difference. It’s not about speeding and stepping on the accelerator trying to stay ahead of the other competitors. But, the idea is to follow the guidelines, maintain the speed limits and the time controls and the safety aspects while on the road,” explained Dossa.

A regular participant, Parul Shah, who has driven in all the earlier nine editions and had emerged winner once, is eagerly looking forward to the event this year. “It’s a great feeling to be participating in this CarRally. We are always excited. This is unique as it’s not about speeding or driving fast, but how to control speed and maintain timing. If we drive too fast and reach before the slated time, then the penalty is greater since more points are deducted as compared to the number of points deducted on reaching behind the time schedule. Hence, timing the entire race is very important,” said an excited Shah.

The winner of the 225 kilometre rally will receive a cash prize of Rs one lakh, the first runner-up, Rs 75,000 and the second runner-up Rs 50,000. There are also prizes for the best decorated car, best dressed team, best message on car, best theme on car, best slogan on car, best enthusiast team, oldest rally participant and most popular team on Facebook#womensrallythevalley.

The rally will be flagged off by prominent dignitaries, which include Nitin Dossa, former cricketer Sandeep Patil, Pravin Sood, CEO, Lavassa City to name a few.

The All-women Car Rally will commence from NSCI, Mumbai at 06:30am. Veteran rally driver Katie Bhathena will be seated at behind the steering wheel of the 00 car, the route opening car. The cars will proceed through the city’s major landmarks such as Hajji Ali, Peddar Road, Chowpatty, Marine Drive, Churchgate before concluding at Lavassa City near Pune.  A team of celebrities will be present at the key points throughout the route of the rally to encourage the participants. The women drivers will be ensured a smooth ride with safety volunteers to be stationed throughout the route.

The race will culminate at Lavassa City later in the afternoon.
