Manipal, October 24: The 23rd annual conference of the Karnataka Association of Community Health (KACH) which concluded on Saturday at Fortune Inn Valley View deliberated on issues plaguing infectious diseases such as the menace of emerging infections and antimicrobial resistance. Over 300 delegates attended the conference.
Dr Sowmya Swaminathan from the National Institute for Research in Tuberculosis, Chennai, Dr RC Dhiman from the National Institute of Malaria Research, Delhi, Dr Ravi Kumar from MoHFW, Delhi and Dr Dilip Mathai, Department of General Medicine, CMC, Vellore were some of the eminent professionals who reflected on these issues.

Policy matters such as the introduction of pentavalent vaccines in the national immunization schedule and revised guidelines in the TB control program were also touched upon. Chancellor Manipal University, Dr Ramdas M Pai and Mrs Vasanthi M Pai, and other officials of the university were present. The chief guest Dr A K Agarwal, Prof IGNOU, New Delhi gave an insight into the strength and weakness of Indian health care system.
KACH awards namely the best community health professional, BM Patil oration & Young scientist of the year was conferred on eminent professionals in the field. The valedictory function was presided over by Dr G K Prabhu, Registrar, Manipal University. The event was sponsored by Corporation Bank and Manipal Health Enterprises.
