Key KSRTC boarding point in city has no info for commuters
MANGALORE: Though, hundreds of passengers board KSRTC buses at Ambedkar Circle (Jyothi Circle) every day as most of the corporation’s 450 services barring those on Udupi route passes through it, the place does not have an information centre or a notice board with details of bus timings.
The KSRTC information centre which was functioning out of the bus waiting shed at the circle was shut about two years ago by Mangalore City Corporation for renovation works. Sources in KSRTC said that the corporation could not open another information centre at the bus shed because of lack of cooperation from the city corporation officials. "We have had several communications with MCC on the issue. However, nothing materialized so far," the official added.
However, there is neither an information centre nor a board that provide details regarding services of KSRTC. Meanwhile, private buses operators regularly depute persons to help passengers by providing information regarding bus timings.
The information centre of KSRTC, which was functioning in the bus waiting shed at Ambedkar Circle, was removed by Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) more than two years ago after the shed was renovated. Official sources said that KSRTC could to open information counter again due to the lack of cooperation from the city corporation. KSRTC officials had communicated with MCC seeking space for information centre, but it has not materialised.
Ganesh Bhat, a resident of Puttur told TOI that he has seen people struggling to get information about KSRTC bus timings at Ambedkar Circle. "Private bus operators deploy their agents at the circle. But, give information only about their services. KSRTC authorities should open information centre or post staff to solve the issue," he added.
Harshith Kumar, a regular commuter, said that the situation becomes chaotic between 4pm and 8pm. "People, who arrive from places outside the city limits, find it very difficult to get information about bus timings. The information centre will ease their woes," he added.
When TOI contacted KSRTC divisional controller M Ramesh, he said that there are plans to reopen the information centre at Ambedkar Circle. "We will make arrangements to open the information centre, but not immediately," he added.
