Print Manipal : PC-PNDT Awareness Program was held under the joint aegis of Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, Manipal University and District Administration, Zilla Panchayat and District Health and Family Welfare Office, Udupi District ON December 17, 2016 at Kasturba Medical College and Hospital, Manipal.
Inaugurating the program Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate of Udupi District Shri T Venkatesh IAS, stressed the need of strict implementation of the PC-PNDT Act to prevent falling female to male sex ratio in the country. He was appreciative of the healthy female to male sex ratio in the District of Udupi and said that there was no complaint against the obstetricians or ultrasonologist during his tenure as Deputy Commissioner of Udupi.
Dr Rajani, Dy Director of PC-PNDT Cell, Bangalore, Government of Karnataka, clarified all the issues regarding the Act and its implementations, during the question and answer session. She also administered the oath to the delegates to save the girl child and that they would not detect or reveal the fetal sex.
Dr Rohini, District Health officer, Udupi District spoke about the relevance and importance of the act.
Dr Antony Sylvan D’Souza, Associate Dean of KMC, Manipal speaking on the occasion said the responsibility lies both on doctors and society to save the girl child.
Dr Muralidhar V Pai, Professor and Head of the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Organizing Chairman gave the welcome address as well as spoke on the Ethical issues of PC-PNDT Act. Dr Akhila Hebbar spoke on registration and documentation, Dr Jayaraman Nambiar spoke on important judgements given under the Act. Dr Rekha Upadhya was master of ceremony.
