Doha Qatar : Mangalore Cricket Club, Qatar (MCC) will host Mangalorean Day along with Gulf Baila Dance contest Qatar Prelims on Friday 27th January 2017 at 5.30 p.m.  at MES CBSE-I School Auditorium . Abu Hamour.

MCC year after year organizes Mangalorean Day to bring all Mangaloreans spread in Qatar to come together as one family and provides a platform to all Mangaloreans to showcase their different talents on one stage..

The main attraction of this Mangalorean Day is the Baila Dance Contest, traditional Voviyo and Verse (ವೊವಿಯೋ ಆನಿಂ ವೇರ್ಸ್) competition along with other cultural program including songs and skits and food fiesta.  It’s a complete package of entertaining evening from tiny tots to young to elders.

MCC will also be felicitating members Carol D’Souza and Clement Fernandes, first runners-up of Gulf Voice of Mangalore – 5 during this program.

While one’s eyes, ears, hearts and minds are being entertained by dance, music and humorous skit, a grand variety of home cooked Mangalorean delicacies will be available in food stalls to satisfy one’s literal hunger and crave for home made food especially to our bachelor brethren and families staying away from our homeland.

We earnestly request all to come forward and participate in this Mangalorean Day and make it a memorable fun-filled evening with your near and dear ones and as one big Mangalorean family.

Entry to the event is free. 

Voviyo & Verse (ವೊವಿಯೋ ಆನಿಂ ವೇರ್ಸ್) Competition on Mangalorean Day: 

We will keep Voviyo & Verse (ವೊವಿಯೋ ಆನಿಂ ವೇರ್ಸ್)  as a competition between groups and the rules are as follows:

Ø  No age bar

Ø  No  gender bar

Ø  Members or non-members of Mangalorean origin can participate

Ø  Resident  or a visitor in Qatar can participate

Ø  Group should have minimum of 3 and maximum of 6 persons.

Ø  Group needs to recite both voviyo and verse

Ø  Time limit is 5 mins for each group

 Voviyos (ವೊವಿಯೋ )  can be sung from any categories or mixed from all categories:

·         Roce laithana (Thel pusthana, kutmachio, resperacho, chidavncho, hoglapchio)

·         Resparak baisarthanam

·         Sado barthana

·         sado nesaithana.

 Verse (ವೇರ್ಸ್) also can be sung from any categories :

·         vor matwak beethar sarthana

·         Novryak mai mudhi shivnthana

·         Vokleyk oppsun dithana

·         Vokleyk beethar kanghethana

We have many amidst us who are good singers as well as rich in knowledge of our Mangalorean culture and traditions. We invite all interested to form groups and participate in this competition and enrich our Konkani culture and tradition on our Mangalorean Day.
