Solution and Journalists role in Coastal problems - interaction program

Udupi : The role of journalists to solve the problems in coastal districts of Karnataka very important . Various problems in coastal districts can be solved by the responsible journalists by providing fair and responsible news and reports, said Dr. H. C. Sharathchandra, former President of Karnataka Environmental Control Academy and environmentalist.
He was speaking during the inaugural interaction programme on Coastal Problems – Solutions and role of Journalists organized by Karnataka Media Academy, Department of Information and Broadcasting, Udupi district and Udupi District Working Journalists Association, Udupi which was held at Dr. A.M.V. Baliga Memorial I.M.A. Hall, Ajjarkad here on Saturday, 21st January, 2017.
He said that it would be rare to say that this year coastal districts received below marginal rain and experiences draught situation. Due to urbanization, Industrialization and development the environmental situation in the coastal districts not in good condition and need to be awareness on these things. Scientists looking forward to research the rising level water in the sea and oceans. There should be development but not in the expense of natural disaster.
He said that journalists should not think in argue about his brilliancy while reporting. They should understand the values and impact on report that fair report has done. Media are critical for raising and imposing capacity of people to understand the issues and problems in coastal districts. Journalists should give fleeting information of help people to understand better the notion of integrated management of coastal regions in a context of sustainable development. Media is the last resort for those who have been pushed aside by a development projects which has taken scant notice of the economical and social factors involved.
Earlier T. Venkatesh Deputy Commissioner of Udupi district was inaugurated with lighting the lamp. The programme began with Nadageethe.
In his inaugural address T. Venkatesh said that the coastal district having the several problems like migration of people from other parts of the country and the state, Various problems can be solved through the responsible reports from the journalists. The role of journalists in the coastal districts problems would be very important and can be solved. Migration is a key factor effecting coastal zones and also urbanization has a deleterious effect. People who live in coastal regions may suffer the cumulative burden of environmental stress.
M. Siddharaju President of Karnataka Media Academy said in his key note address that the various problems can be solved due to directly and indirectly active participation of the media to put better and responsible reports.
Earlier, Rajesh Shetty Treasurer of UDWJA welcomed the gatherings. Ganesh Prasad Pandelu Secretary of UDWJA proposed vote of thanks. Nagaraj compered the programme.
Media Academy member Venketsing, Muttu Nayak, Nelini Pradeep Rao President of Udupi Taluk Panchayat, K. Rohini, Official of district Information and Broadcasting Department, S. Shankerappa Academy secretary, Jayakar Suvarna President of UDWJA were present on the dais.
