Udupi : The District Police have arrested Ankith Kumpala (24) in connection with the stone pelting case of Adi-Udupi Mosque, the murder of a auto rickshaw driver Muhammed Hanif and deadly assaulting on another auto rickshaw driver Mohammed Shabbir, said Vishuvardhan Additional Superintendent of Police, Udupi district on 2^nd February, 2017.

Addressing a press meet at Udupi district SP’s office ASP Vishuvardhan said that within three days under the leadership of Udupi Police with the teams of five, Police successfully arrested Ankit Kumpala, son of Jagadish Poojary, Ashraya Colony, Murukatte, Kumpala, Kotekar Post, Mangaluru. Ankit was living with his sister in their rented house at Kodankuru and was working as an assistant at his brother-in-law’s shop dealing in interiors.

Udupi Police formed five teams to arrest the culprit and successfully arrested within three days of his crime. ASP said that the accused involved in several cases in Mangaluru district. On the night of 28^th January, he pelted stones at the mosque at Adi Udupi and damaging the window panes.

After while riding along with NH 66 near Hotel Sharada International Ankit had words with the Muhammed Hanif that Hanif driving on the wrong side and argued with him. The accused Ankit know that Hanif was a Muslim and taken out his knife and stabbed Hanif. Then another auto driver Mohammed Shabbir who came to help and rescue Hanif, accused stabbed deadly assaulted Shabbir also.

ASP said that Mohammed Shabbir recovering with the injury. Ankit was arrested on 1^st February and produced on the same day and asking for police custody for further investigation. During the interrogation Ankit Kumpala confessed to being involved in both the incidents.

When asked about the role of accused in any Hindu Vedike, ASP said that there is no information like that and will come to light during further investigation with the accused Ankit.

Srikanth, Udupi Town Police Station PSI Ananthapadbhanabha, Brahmavar Police Station PSI Madhu T S., Traffic Police Station PSI Vekatesh, ASI Rosario D’Souza, Policemen HC Umesh, PC Imran, Driver Mahabaleshwar, HC Ravichandra, Suresh, Ramu Hegde, HC Raghavendra, HC Chandra Shetty, HC Santhosh Kunder, PC Praveen, PC Raj Kumar, PC Dayanand Prabhu, PC Shivanand, and PHC Raghavendra, Shivanand and Nithin of RDC were participated in the investigation team.
