Various Bank Employees’ Unions staged protest for their demands

Print Udupi : Bank Employees’ staged protest in front of Syndicate Bank, Catholic Centre Branch here on Tuesday, 28th February, 2017 in response to all India level Bank Strike call. The members of Bank Employee’s Federation of India, Udupi district, United Forum of Bank Unions, Udupi district, All India Vijaya Bank Officer’s Association, Udupi Regional unit and Udupi district Bank Employees’ Association were participated.
The agitating bank workers has alleged that the government has been amending labour laws to suit their needs, curbing trade union rights in banking sector. The employees and officers are demanding compensation for extra work hours put during the period of demonetization exercise. Appointment of workmen and officer employee directors to the boards of banks, adequate recruitment in all categories, removal of ceiling on gratuity, income tax exemption for superannuation benefits, improvement in pension benefits etc are the demands which unions say have not been met.
The protesters said that appointment of family members on compassionate grounds which is approved by central government has not been implemented by several banks. Fixing of accountability in case of willful default, huge bad loans and criminal action against willful defaulters etc are the other demands of the workmen and officer employees.
Various associations leaders like Udupi District Bank Employees’ Association President Ram Mohan, secretary Herald D’Souza, Officers Association leaders Jayaprakash Rao, Hemanth U Kanth, Ravindra of BEFI were spoke during the protest.
K. R. Shenoy of NCBE, Prakash Jogi of State Bank Officers Association, Ravikumar of Syndicate Bank Workers’ Union, Varadhraj of Canara Bank Employees Union, Nithyanand of Karnataka Bank Workers Union, Ramakrishna Ballal of Corporation Bank Employees Union and other among were present during the protest.
