Udupi : The Centre for Advanced Research in Financial Inclusion, School of Management, Manipal University in association with International “We Serve” Foundation, Kentucky, USA is organizing an international conference on “Fostering Innovation in Financial Inclusion : Bridging Resources and Opportunities” on 4^th and 5^th March, 2017 at KMC Interact Hall, Manipal.

Speaking to media persons at Udupi Press Club on Thursday, 2^nd March, Dr. Ravindranath Nayak Director and Dr. Savitha Convener said that the conference will be inaugurated on 4^th March at 9.30 am by the Chief guest, Mr. Jai Kumar Garg, Managing Director and CEO, Corporation Bank and Guest of Honour. Mr Allen C A Periera, Former GM Syndicate Bank, CMD of Bank of Maharashtra and ED of Oriental Bank of Commerce. The function will be presided by Dr. Poornima Baliga, Dean, Kasturba Medical College, Manipal University.

The program over the two days will include three plenary sessions, three technical sessions and a panel discussion by a galaxy of leading experts from not only academic institutions but also experts from banks and financial institutions, scientific paper presentations by researchers and practitioners; and informal conversations for mutual sharing and enrichment. The FIFI conference is expected to bring together more than 200 participants from government, academia, civil society and banking.

They said that financial inclusion is a process of ensuring access to formal financial system by individuals and firms at a reasonable cost. The goals of financial inclusion in a resource constrained Indian economy can be achieved only through innovation in financial sector. In an era of disruptive structural changes in financial industry marked by global mobile telecommunications, high performance business platforms and democratization of communications, innovation in diverse fields is essential to enhance access, quality and usage of financial services. FIFI’s objectives are to analyze the role of innovation in bridging the business opportunity and scarce resources amidst policy mandates and fierce competition, and two deliberate on the digital technologies, innovative and lover cost business models, innovations to transform the financial ecosystem and opportunities of disruptive technology in developing sustainable ecosystem for inclusive finance. It also aims to facilitate interactions with policy makers on attest national and regional initiatives and frontier issues in enabling greater financial inclusion and showcase latest technology and innovations in financial products and services for the unbanked and underserved.

The valedictory function will held on 5^th March at 12.30pm at KMC Interact Hall. Vidyalaxmi Assistant General Manager of Karnataka Bank will be the chief guest and Mr V Leeladhar, former deputy governor of Reserve Bank of India will be the guest of honour. This function will be presided by Dr. Raveendranath Nayak, Director of School of Management,  Manipal University.

There will be research paper presentations by around 80 academicians and researchers from all over India and abroad during the technical sessions. This conference will provide platform to debate, exchange knowledge and develop partnership that shall provide contemporary solutions and innovative ideas to accelerate innovation in financial inclusion with maximum impact.
