Udupi : District Women Congress staged protest against Modi government at the centre on rising LPG cooking gas and criticized the NDA government for having failed to curb the soaring prices of cooking gas. The protest held against the Union Government in front of Clock Tower here on Thursday, 2^nd March, 2017.

The protest began with cooking without the gas by Veronica Cornelio President of District Women Congress and said that the price of cooking gas was today hiked by Rs. 86 per unit. Now women in India in distress that cooking gas has essential for us but the current prices has made it difficult for a common man. BJP had promised during general election that it will bring down the prices of all necessary items but the same has forge then now.

When UPA’ s government there was Rs. 422 per unit, when there was Rs. Increased per unit BJP protested in street. Now the present price from today increased to unit Rs. 735 within six months. During September the per unit LPG price was 457. She asks Modi government have any responsibility on common man? Central government had cheating the people with false promises during the general election and won the election. Even Modi government has been cheating to give LPG subsidy amount to the people. Modi government going to charge bank transactions charges of Rs. 150/.

Accessing Modi implemented note ban policy of depriving the common people of their white money and the lower middle class, traders, daily wagers, housewives are the worst sufferers.

Speaking to protestors, Jyothi Hebbar Vice President of district Women Congress, said that Modi is fooling the country with one or another issue and the speeches on cow protection don’t suit him that BJP ruling Gujarath state is leading in beef export in the country. The women voters who representing more than 50% in the country are want to teach him a very good lesson while increasing LPG prices. It is sure that the surgical strikes on women through the hike in LPG prices will lead central government downfall in the coming election.

She said that Modi government is behaving like a dictatorship instead democracy. BJP led Modi government had failed on curbing prices raises and failed in all fronts and the good days that had been promised have termed out to be bad days for the people due to wrong decisions and policies by Narendra Modi led central government.

State Minority Development Corporation Chairman M A Gafoor also spoke during the protest. Women leaders Sarasu Bangera, Dr. Sunitha Shetty, Meenakshi Madhav Bannanje, Sandhya Tilakraj, Celina Karkada, Roshini Olivera, Chandrika Kelkar, Mary D’Souza, Sarala Kanchan, Geetha Wagle, Sulochana Bangera, Gopi Naik, Laxmi Bhat, Chandrika Shetty, Prabha Shetty, Veera D’Souza, Sugandhi Shekar, Janardhan Bhandarkar, Ramesh Kanchan, Dinesh Puthran, Nagesh Udyavar, Amrith Shenoy, Harish Kini, Neeraj Patil and other leaders were present.
