Udupi : Siddaramaiah, Chief Minister of Karnataka has earmarked a total of Rs. 125 crore in 2015/16 for the development of Christian community. Christians in the state constitute around 30 lacs which 4% of the total population in the state, Most of the schemes of the government not reaching the people owing to lack of awareness, said Ivan D’Souza MLC, Chief whip of the legislative council of Karnataka State and also vice President of the Christian Development Council.

He was speaking to media persons at Bishops House on Friday, 3^rd February, 2017, said that Christian Development Council is presently working for the betterment of Christian Minorities. The government has decided to establish information centers in three taluks in Udupi district. This will help to allotted funds for the community which has utilized properly for the development of the community.

He said he have visited 24 districts of the state and gone through the progress of the government schemes which utilized by the community.

He demanded that in order to uplift of the community and to utilize various benefits for the community, the present Christian Development Council to be upgraded into Christian Development Academy and to increase the total funds from Rs. 125 crore to Rs 130 crore in view of many community people who live below poverty line in Kalaburagi, Yadgiri and Koppala.

There is demand that appointment of a Commission for Minorities to train, employment and placement centers in four regional places which will able to give special training for IPS, KPS and other competitive exams.

We demanded to set up a hostel for Christian communities at the 24 districts headquarters which will benefit for students of the community.

He also demanded that like Andhra Pradesh state, Karnataka State also should release funds for Christian communities to travel the holy land of Jerusalem. Government should also give financial support for the Christian Community halls in Mangaluru, Bengaluru, Kolar, Belagavi, Bidar, Uttar Kannada and Kalaburagi and develop0ment in basic amenities at Christian community colonies in Karnataka State.

Marshel Montiero council member, Wilson Rodrigues Zilla Panchayat member, Michael Ramesh D’Souza Taluk Panchyat member, Sridhar Bhandary official and others were present.

Asking to him by media men regarding dropped steel flyover at Bangaluru, he said BJP one of the top corrupted party in the State that due to corruption they gave up their government. There is no need to talk regarding corruption in Congress. The dropping of Bengaluru Steel Flyover project not due to opposition BJP party but people wanted to drop the said project. The said project proposed by then government of BJP in the state. But now they are playing politics. Indeed the said flyover very badly needed in order to overcome problems of traffic in the area. BJP put us allegation that there was corruption in the project and meantime public oppose this plan and we dropped the project plan.
