Udupi : Varahi irrigation project envisioned as the loopholes continue still people affected by the project submitted a list of complaints to District in-charge Minister Pramod Madhwaraj at a review meeting of the said project on Monday, 6^th March, 207.

After the Minister along with engineers, officials and people’s representatives had a whirlwind tour of the entire canal on Left Bank Canal area with interacting with the affected people and had glance into the major problems that impede the completion of the project. The people are suffering still from the water crisis.

Pramod Madhwaraj was chairing a review meeting of officers of the Varahi Irrigation Project along with Officers of Revenue and Forest Departments at Varahi after accepting complaints from the people asked the engineers if they were aware of the complaints, the latter struggled to answer asked that “are you not filling complaints and not going through the files. Then engineer said that there was pendency of 20 files only, Madhwaraj asked how he was not aware of the problems if the pendency was very low. About Rs. 579 crores has been spent on Varahi Irrigation Project so far,There will still applications for compensation have not been cleared. Engineers and the officials concerned showed injustice for the people.

Pramod Madhwaraj directed to Deputy Commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis, along with Assistant Commissioner to hold a meeting of the engineers of the project and forest department soon to check the pendency of files.

Pramod Madhwaraj said that the engineers might have got transferred and taken charge of their posts recently here. But the files would have been prepared over the months and years also. All they required is to go through them and dispose them of immediately.

Kundapur, Jayashree President of Kundapur Taluk Panchayat,  Varahi Irrigation Managing Director Mallikarguna, Varahi Irrigation Project chief Engineer Padmanabha, DFO Amarnath were present.
