Navi Mumbai Kannada Sangha, Vashi, celebrated in succession for the 5th year - INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY on 8th March in an Unique and Diversified way, as it honoured 7 women achievers from 7 different strata of society and different fields.

Chief Guest Mrs Pushpa Kushal Hegde, Director at KSH Group,Waterloo Motors, Pune.  Also involved in social work through NGOS Like Mano Vikas School Founded in 1989 under the aegis of the Poona Women’s Council caters to intellectually challenged students from economically weaker sections of society. She stated that “FOR A WOMAN, EVERY DAY IS A WOMEN’S DAY” also being a Puneite, she felt very nice to grace this event in Navi Mumbai, where Women Achievers from Diversified Field were Honoured.

Guest of Honour, Inspector Mamta D’souza currently in Traffic Control CBD Belapur, A fluent speaker in Marathi, talked about safety measurements we should take about theft and other self-defence safety for women, she also said as a Women Inspector I feel proud, as I cook myself at home and love to dress like any other women, though Police uniform as its own restrictions and respect too. President Savitha Nayak, also thanked for support from Navi Mumbai Kannada Sangha, like Secretary Sujatha Rao, Savitha Joshy, Mr B Balchandra Rao, Chairman, Navi Mumbai Kannada Sagha and others, for this event, sponsors Tupperware, Bharat Bank etc. & Always and having many programs at the Sangha premises like medical camps and other events.

The six Women Achievers honored are

1) Ls Mala Shetty, into social work since 1984, running Apeksha, Autistic school to producing a film on Aids awareness & Music Therapy also into Lions, said that she was groomed to be Leader & social worker by her Dad Late Mr K M Alva, who started Kannada medium school in chembur for first time in 1957 in BMC school & her son Satej who is a special child was the reason behind working for poor and disabled. Though she was  career women, had to leave the job early to take care of Satej, she feels proud her 2nd son Sarosh, made her proud as she could fulfil her dream through him as he is doing very good, working in USA.

2) Dr Sharada Rao, working in Cardiology, Neuroscience too has Aditya, an Autistic, she decided to live her life to make him  independent as he was good swimmer, Yoga etc. though she has a daughter, Bhavana, is in USA. Sharada is like a role model in  parenting special kids to all mothers, in Navi Mumbai.

3) Mrs Vijayalaxmi Patgaonkar, who works for Maratha syndicate, adivasi people like Maharshi Vinoba Bhave Gram Parivartan, providing clothes, books, Education, Solar Lamps, Rural Upliftment etc. running Bachat Ghat with NMMC poor ladies felt very humbled that Kannada sangha has honoured on Women’s Day.

4) Mrs Mukta Mahapatra, MSc from Odisha, tapping Adolescents Potential counselling skills working with Vinimity Trust. Now she works Vashi Municipal Hospital with Anvay De-addiction centre, talked about rehabilitating Adivasi people.

5) Mrs Mumtaz Mukri, Post-women at Vashi Post Office, joined in 1996, was awarded BEST POST WOMEN AWARD IN NAVI MUMBAI. She was very happy being honoured by Kannada Sangha, as she got job with much difficulty and happy to awarded Best Post Woman and today I am honoured on Women’s Day.

6) Mrs Reena Kasturi, BSC Graduate has got 14 year old son, is associated with Youthellenium Dance Academy, since 5 years teaches dance. She was crowned Mrs Navi Mumbai in 2016. She said she was happy to be amongst the members and being honoured by Navi Mumbai Kannada Sangha.

7). Mrs Sahana Bhardwaj, a danseuse did her education in Udupi, PG Dip in Yoga Therapy Vidwat in Bharat Natyam, Learnt Yakshagana from her Mother who is also her guru, also learnt Music from Guru Vidwan Mahadeo Acharya. Hot Award from Karnataka Yakshagana Academy, said humorously I can dance for hours on stage, but tell me to speak a sentence on dais, I feel very nervous, felt happy to be honoured on women’s day.

Later on the Sangha had games for guests and members also gifts by Tupperware for the winners
