The definition of post colonialism may be fairly boundaried, the actual use of the term is very subjective, allowing for a yoking together of a very diverse range of experiences, cultures and problems. The term post colonialism is used both as literal description of formerly colonial societies and as a description of global conditions after a period of colonialism.
Rev Fr. Dr. Lawrence C. D’Souza, Secretary of Catholic Education Society of Udupi Diocese (CESU), during in his presiding address said that learning never ends. Students as well as teachers should make advantage in researching process. But teachers most benefited rather than students in research. Denis D’Souza and founder principal Dr. Gururaj Bhat the college has been marching towards development in rural area. But at the present situation due to other courses like engineering and medicines etc, the degree colleges facing certain obstacles to get enough of students in the field of common degree courses.
Earlier Dr. Gerald Pinto Principal of Milagres College welcomed the gatherings. Prof. Cyril Mathias, HOD, Department of English proposed vote of thanks.
As about the Seminar, the debate on Postcolonialism explores the experience of imperialism of nearly three centuries that includes colonialism as well as neocolonialism of the late 90th century and the geo-political regions of India, Latin America, Africa, Antarctica and Europe especially England. This expericne is mainly related to extend control and economic exploitation of the native people and their landby the colonists.
The postcolonial literature focuses on the aesthetic culture with its groundings in the historical, social, economic and political realities. At present the reacting and writing of literature has entered into the neo-colonial phase with new expectations, anxieties and alternatives. There is need to understand this transition of literary aspirations in neo-colonialism.
The seminar will try to throw more light on the various aspects of postcolonial literature, especially in the context of twenty First Century. Greater concentration on Indian Writers may help us to percolate the theme of the seminar more effectively.
