Dramatist, Social worker Reginald Furtado honored by Sumansa, Kodavoor.

Kemmannu, April 7, 2017: Well known Dramatist and social worker of Hampankatte Kemmannu area, Mr. Reginald Furtado was recently honored by well known social organization Sumanasa Kodavoor. The felicitation was bestowed on him in a grand function held by the association in collaboration with Kannada Cultural Directorate, Bangalore at Bujanga Park, Ajjerkad Udupi. Renowned Kannada writer Mr. Jayanth Kaikni was the chief guest on the occasion.

A multifaceted personality, Reginald Furtado was born to Mr. Lawrence and Mary Furtado of Kelarkalbettu near Hampankatte. A well known Kabaddi player of his time he had represented teams like Veer Hanuman Team, Maharashtra and Canara Steel, Baikampady Mangalore and helped them to win several prestigious trophys.

Right from young age Reginald was interested in stage Dramas and has acted in several Tulu and Konkani plays. He started writing his own dramas later bringing out hit plays like ‘”Porluda urlu” “Gauri Enna Vairi” “Kannirda Kadal” “Unduu Boothana” “Arluna Kusuma Badunnd” “Onji Ponnana Kathe” and “unduula Samajana” He also wrote and acted in Konkanni plays “Vodlimaiche Poische”and “Winni Konnache”. Such proximity to stage brought him in contact with several famous Tulu stage and film personalities like Director V. Manohar, Sudhakar Bannanje, K N Tailor, Raju B. Thonse, Vijaykumar Shetty of Kala sangam Mumbai and Producer Director U. Krishnappa Uppoor.

As a social worker he has served has the President of Hampankatte Friends a vibrant social organization of Hampankatte area. He has saved several people from drowning and is a well known snake catcher of the area, responding to distress call 24 hours a day.

Recognizing his services, several institutions and social organizations have honored him. A down to earth person he is, Reginald lives with his family in Keralkalbettu near Hampankatte. The present honor my Sumanasa Kodavoor is just a addition to his cap which is full of feathers.
